My Little Ladies

Why spread out, when you can squoosh into a 5 pullet cuddle puddle instead?

I was beginning to worry that Willamina hadn't layed another egg yet. But then I found one *buried* in the nest box. And it looks like George has started laying too! :celebrate

But I'm going to have to work on the nest boxes, because 2 of the eggs have been layed in the corner.

Yay eggs!

Leave a couple of eggs in the nest boxes.... chickens will generally lay where there are already eggs.

I found two soft shelled broken eggs on the roost this morning. One looked normal size and one much smaller. I haven't found any eggs from Willamina in a few days, so I'm guessing they are hers. I checked her over and she appears fine. No hard masses in her belly. I gave her a calcium citrate tablet anyway.

My other 2 layers (George and Gertrude) seem okay well. George has no hard masses either and Gertrude is in nesting box as we speak.

Am I likely correct in thinking these are both from Willamina?

Poor Willamina has had a rough day. First the soft shelled egg(s) and now a comb injury. She must have got it caught in the new chicken wire grazing box I put in today.

Got her cleaned up and put some ointment on it. She was a champ about it.
That'll heal up fine
