My Love Affair With Ducks...

Pics
:lau:lau These little boogers are smart. They always seem to be into something.

I used a tarp that was way too big so it was folded I think four times and then a few more times in some places. I only put the tarp on the floor. I had already wrapped the walls and cabinet with thicker than normal plastic, but that did not deter them from Trying To Find A Weakness In The Barrier!

And guess who was the ring leader? Of course she was! Petey is always in the middle of it all! I believe the duckies checked out every inch of the surrounding walls.
But for all they know, you could be hiding treats under the tarp! They must know:lau They remind me of little puppies that have to chew on everything

You know, that video is a bit disturbing. And to think I kiss them...right after I’ve seen them eat poop in the bath tub.
:thumbsupBoosts the immune system right?

Do duckies generally lounge around quite a bit or are mine depressed or bored? I mean, I love just sitting out here in the warm sunshine, with a nice north easterly breeze (with a few strong gusts), but a little duckie might not. Hey now, don’t be judging the dirty jeans. At least you can’t see the poop on them. :lau
They do sleep plenty - hard work finding all those bugs! Mine always sleep more in their pen vs free range though, but I think that's more because the whole group can settle down, whereas out free ranging one of them is always impatient to get going again - usually the Runner! Some breeds seem to like resting more, but anyways - off topic lol.
What a cute bunch:love I love how they tuck up next to you

Can you split them into the two bedrooms you made for them? You may have to add a little run and rotate access to it, girls one day, boys the next.
No, both bedrooms have one opening to the livingroom:

I have to move the vacation home to another section of my fenced area, make it predator safe and house the drakes there.
Maybe later i can use that as broader for ducklings... I'm crazy, you know!
As long as I can let them loose for a while every day its fine.

Always remember: where there’s a will, there’s a way! :love

Duckies have a very relaxed way of life; In the same way as a sunny day outside relaxes us and makes us sleepy they also sleep a lot in the sun.
My flock is active foraging for one hour, up to 90 minutes, then they all come running back to the house, where they feel safe and rest for 1-2 hours; repeat until bed-time.

Always remember: where there’s a will, there’s a way! :love
Will and way are there, but herding them all into the house every evening, then grabbing the drakes and throw them into one room then grabbing the ducks and throw them into the other room is just not practical. - They also would walk straight back into the living room, because there is their supper-bowl…
Weirdly, in the house is something like a no fight zone. Yes, there's some bumping into each other, but no biting the ducks or Limpy. It happens only outside, when they're "confined" to the ~ 10,000 square feet around the house. The moment i open one of the gates, everybody is waaay too occupied with exploring to fight.
