Yes, she hurt herself in the incubator while her siblings were hatching. In the end the tips of her toes turned black and fell off. It was a very traumatic start for her and I am very happy she made it trough, I thought I would loose her for sure.
She manages just fine now though! Her grip just isn't as secure as the others.

I really didn't notice the right toes, just thought toe nails were dug into you! I thought you were referring to her left middle toe, which, is crooked! Crooked toes are a results of the chick taking too long to get out of the shell, often common in artificial incubation chicks.If caught early enough they can be straighten out.

I see! And yes they do like to use their nails (sharp as anything!), but in her case she is actually missing the tips of several toes on both feet because of trauma. Poor thing. They were not crooked to begin with but they healed that way when she was still very small.
I don't really know what happened with her in the incubator, she was the first one to hatch and she simply could not get herself upright, and with the desperate flailing she eventually hurt herself. By day two she had found her feet with some assistance, but the toes must have been severely damaged since a couple of days later the tips withered away.

How can one not love their little faces?

This lad is prettier and prettier by the day, but it is funny how the yellow just turns up randomly in strands and patches, like by the drape over his tail. Is is super bright!

That's how their color comes in, one day plain and dull, the next, splashes of color. His next adult molt, he will be fully colored out.
