My rooster killed a hawk!

Just realize that you cannot legally have the hawk stuffed.

My worry about the hawk would be that it might have been ill, which weakened it and prevented it from effectively fighting back or flying away. Quite frankly, you need to call your game & fish department and tell them what you found. It should be tested to ensure that it was not ill. And if it was ill, it might have infected your flock.

Yes, a hawk can easily take a bird twice its size or larger. If the bird is too heavy to carry off, it will eat the bird where caught.

I didn't read this entire thread so

I'm not sure if somones already said this or not,

but hawks will get chickens to stick their heads

through the fence, then they'll snatch them.

They're smart birds.

That is awsome, the two rooster killing the hawk stories. I know when the rooster has a mind to, they can be very brutal (intent on killing, very premeditated) and the only escape is cover for the head (because they are going for the vitals on the head). So, eyes pecked out...Yep.

Oh, how I wish that I had a roo like that! I would be so proud!!! Treats for everyone!!! I swear, I would never butcher that rooster! He's earned his stay!
