My sick chicken

Updated Pictures: Warning is graphic
I got the huge scabs off. I know I need to get that yellow film off the bad eye, but I stressed it enough tonight.
You can see nostrils! It's still wheezing breathing, but seems to be a bit more active. Gave 3rd dose of Baytril.
It has got runs from it I think. Not too bad though. Still fighting me like crazy when cleaning its face so, so far so good.
Any ideas on why good eye is still so red and inflamed? Looks so sore. ok thanks for input

Eye that I haven't seen yet. Getting closer.

This eye is doing a little better. She keeps it closed a lot.

Well, it really looks like you are getting somewhere. I imagine the little chick feels so much better with her nostrils open, and seeing out of the one eye. Yes too much szalt in chickens' diet is bad, but the sodium in the electrolytes is good, and electrolytes shouldn't be given more than 2 days. Keep up the good work with your little girl.

Can you post a picture of the inside of it's mouth? Did you say you were in Northern CA? If so, are you close to UC Davis or Tulare? Might be worth getting a sterile container, putting some pus in it and dropping it off at one of the labs, they can test it for a small fee. You could also use their Fedex Account and overnight it if you too far away.

Baytril will not do much as long as the pus remains.

Hi Kathy thanks for answering. I am far from UC Davis. Im in middle of ca. Not all that far from Gilroy. I live in Modesto its in middle, lol.
I'm gonna try and get a pic but it is really hard cuz its mouth is so small. I have been using the Bentadine diluted every other day. It has kept it
from spreading. I just gave it a 1/4 pill of Fishzole diluted down its throat. Im going to try for a picture now. Be back shortly

Davis also has a lab in Turlock, which is only 15 miles away? Take the chick there and have them collect a sample, cost to test it should be less than $10.

Turlock Laboratory

The Turlock laboratory provides diagnostic support for the needs of the poultry industry in the northern San Joaquin valley. It provides diagnostic services in pathology, bacteriology, serology, mycology, and in some aspects of virology. The Turlock Laboratory serves as a point of access to the CAHFS and all of its services except necropsies of large animals. Specimens (except large animals, cats and dogs) will be transported to other laboratories of the CAHFS for diagnostic procedures that cannot be conducted at Turlock.
The Turlock Laboratory accepts all AVIAN submissions including carcasses, serology samples and bacterial cultures. The Turlock Laboratory now performs the Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) Elisa test on ear notch samples.
