Mysterious, painful leg

Just got back.

Didnt really get an answer to what is going on.

Took some xrays and everything looked good, not even swelling. We did a quick laser therapy session to hopefully help her out (was only like 20 bucks, whatever)

She prescribed a
Pain killer/anti-infalmatory: Meloxicam/metacam
Antibiotic:enrofloxacin/baytril

Thoughts?

Perfect patient. She was so sweet the whole time. We would even leave the room with her alone and she would just hang out.

In the car (I KNOW TERRIBLE OF ME) So sweet, such a good traveler!

Baytril is one of the best antibiotics, my first choice with bad infections.
Never used the pain killer...but nice to know. I thought that may be the outcome.
Did she think she may have pulled something...... What was the laser theropy suppose to help with....
At least you have ruled out a break etc....

Well that is good to hear about the baytril. I am giving her .32ml once a day and the painkiller/inflam. twice a day (pill)
She just did her first round and was a trooper. I am lucky to have such a good girl.

The sheet says laser=4effects:
-Cellular effects: activation of the energy cycle of the cells to increase growth/reprod.
-painkilling: increase release of endorphins and supression of cells that identify the pain
Anti-inflma: activation of the lymphatic drainage system and decrease relase of mediators that increase the inflammation
Wound healing: increases growth of blood vessels, decrease scar tissue formation

Maybe a sales pitch, idk. It was only 20 bucks so I thought what the heck. Though i was holding her and holding her leg out for the vet tech to do it (who mentioned chickens scare her HA) and she kicked a little towards the end so we ended it 10 seconds early so maybe a total of 50 seconds. Whatever. She told me it might feel warm but I didnt feel anything when the laser was on me

She took a fecal sample as well, maybe we will see something. She did a quick cell cytology (quick tape test) and she said nothing looked to out of the ordinary

She honestly didnt know what it is around the knee.... she said she was going to look more into it and call me in a couple days to see how it was going...

Honestly, I just wanted to rule out a break and get some good meds for her. Anything else would be a bonus

Aww such a sweet girl...she reminds me of my Chicklet. Neat X-rays. Did she say what those bead like things were inside her body...hehe

She asked me the same thing! She said that was the rocks in her gizzard and she wanted to know why the rocks or whatever are so perfect shaped. I thought that was sooo odd. I have no idea.

I know they use laser therapy on race horses and such..so I'm sure there is some benefit to it.
I was just wondering if it was like beebees or something..lol. I once had a goose that got lead poisoning somehow and he lost control of his legs. Just double checking...hehe.
Let's hope the anti inflammatory and Baytril do something to help her.

Oh...how about the red on her scales...did she say anything or have thoughts on that?
In another post, someone had a good response from a poultry specialist from cornel university.... If you need to get more info, perhaps they may have a suggestion for you. Bluedawg was the BYC member who talked with them.

I hope so too! She also gave me some topical cream that I massage into the skin that helps with pain, inflammation and infections

She has me about lead right away. I honestly dont know what the heck it could be. SO odd. I need to use my thinking cap because now I am curious

Jeesh you are too quick for me! HA.

She thinks that the redness in the scales is part of the infection and it is just moving around. That was one of the things she wanted to look into as well. She said it was something she has never seen. By the way, I dont think she sees very many chickens... mainly your average pet birds.
