I’ve got a mystery. I have 7 21-22 week chickens some are laying. Last week I discovered most my eggs are fertilized. I can’t for the life of me figure out the culprit. I’ve got a security camera pointing at the nesting boxes and have confirm 4 layers. The other 3 have entered the boxes but I haven’t confirmed they’ve laid. The problem is, no one is crowing and they all look like hens. Help me out. Which bird looks MOST like a rooster? (The picture with multiple chickens, I’m asking about the buff one in the front. I know, you’re going to think my culprit is the one standing in the back but she is 100% a confirmed layer!)

Parthenogenesis (self fertilization) is a thing, they never fully develop. Got pics of your fertile eggs?

Roosters DO (or at least can) enter lay boxes.. and search out safe places for the ladies to lay.

I also only see pullets pictured.

At the stated age any standard (non hen feathered breed) chicken is sporting gender specific saddle feathers, images from google..

I’d say that production red is a roo. He’s getting green/black tail feathers have like 3 that look like him.

So interesting! Yes none of my birds have these saddle feathers. Here are the eggs in question.

I would guess that red is the rooster.

Here are my other 4 who I’m 99% sure have laid because ive checked the boxes for eggs immediately after them leaving them for a period of time.
