Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Has anyone else's hens slowed down on their laying? The heat here is getting to them I think. They suddenly slowed down in the last 2/3 weeks when the temps started getting very hot. We've been having some triple digit temps.

They're calling for lower temps come about Wednesday thru the weekend. Low 90's most likely.

Sorry I had to edit. I caught a spelling mistake. One that really bothers me there, their and they're.

Yes same here. Upper 90s even into 100s out of 10 hens im getting 5to 6 eggs maybe some days 4

Low nineties is hotter than the Hinges of Hell around here! If it gets that hot, we start carrying ice to the birds and turn on the heavy fans. More interested in keeping birds alive than worry about eggs! We mist the tops of the coops too...keeps things surprisingly cooler.

Yea I keep a fan on my chickens when they are in the coop. An my quail.as well as make sure they all have plenty of water. They do good. Even better when I let them free range.

We have 2 of those 16X12 metal grow-out coops with 2 inch foam board insulation in the roofs. if we are to continue using them, we will have to insulate them all way down and cover it with 1/2 inch plywood.

Not my job...the new bosss will have to take care of that...lol

Our hens are laying one or two eggs a day, I have four. Last week's temperatures were in 100s. This week is and it's going to be way cooler. Chickens will enjoy this week.
