Has anyone else's hens slowed down on their laying? The heat here is getting to them I think. They suddenly slowed down in the last 2/3 weeks when the temps started getting very hot. We've been having some triple digit temps.
They're calling for lower temps come about Wednesday thru the weekend. Low 90's most likely.
Sorry I had to edit. I caught a spelling mistake. One that really bothers me there, their and they're.
I've actually been really lucky as the only pullets of mine that slowed were the broody ones. I have seven pullets in my "layer flock", four NNs that are not broody right now, and a White Rock that laid her first egg yesterday. I literally got a dozen eggs yesterday, though that one ounce pullet egg barely counted.
It was 102 here yesterday, but I also have gone to great lengths to keep my birds cool. My NN run is equipped with misters, my layer flock gets chilled fruit for a treat, and my cabin with my Biels, which are NOT heat tolerant, is equipped with both a swamp cooler and a portable A/C unit that I direct at birds that seem to be on the verge of heat stroke. Plus I give them frozen 2-liter bottles to lay against and hose down the ground throughout the day so they can scratch and "mud bathe" as they please.
