Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Just found my lovely NN rooster, Melvin, dead.

He was in fine form yesterday with absolutely no sign of illness. I can only assume he had a heart attack or stroke. RIP lovely Melvin.

I vote a big YES ! As you know not all of the babies will have NN so will only be a silkie mix but them some of them are sweet also. DO it Draye ! says I.
if your NN roo is homozigous them 100% would be NN but silkie feathering is resesive and it would take 2 generations to get a show girl

breed NN roo with silkies---if homozigous 100% nn if hetrozigous 50% nn --all would be smooth feathered

keep F1s that has 5 toes and breed them back to the silkies ---50% would thatch NN 25% would hatch silkie feathered

keep silkie feathered NN and breed back to silkies--- to get 50% show girls

Thank you for the kind words, folks. It always seems that the nice ones go first. Melvin was such a gentle soul (though very greedy). I will miss him.

I am so sorry about your loss of melvin, PG. I just lost a youngster this morning to the darn dog I am fostering. The chick managed to squeeze through her fenced area. This is the 3rd time this happened with her and all were NN's that wanted to be with her??? This is strange. She is at least stopping when I yell to her but I don't know if I can break her of this??

With the showgirls, I love my silkie/NN crosses! They usually turn out so pretty, even the F1's. It will take many generations to have the showgirls for the "type" of silkies. My non-bearded whites are F15 and I just hatched a little F16!
