Yeah some hens did lay eggs a lot like the clay flower pots. The other day I saw picture of a welsummer egg.. it was not what any of them laid.. was a light tan with little dark pores. Wondered if it was just the picture or maybe the stock had declined.. they don;t seem to be a popular breed anymore.. they were fairly in demand back then.

Unfortunately no..   those were before digital cameras were common.   There might be pictures in a box somewhere.  I also have a bad habit of not saving digital pictures to memory storage so once a laptop crashes/dies.. it's all gone.

I also made olive eggers well before it became a big fad lol..  the idea was "hmm  what happens blue egg on dark eggs....."  went ahead and bred araucana to welsummer and marans then bred back to welsumer and marans again.  Some of the eggs were incredible!  Most were the typical olive eggs you see but some hens laid incredibly dark solid green or occasionally laid them either as pullets or coming back intolay after a molt.    Also got shiny olive eggs by backcrossing repeatedly to marans.   With the welsummers they gave a different set of olive eggs,  a lot of green with dark green or brown spots.   Not sure what color welsummers typically lay now,  the ones I had laid wonderful red/reddish eggs, most with brown speckles.   I cannot see red too good so that was extra cool for me.  Unfortunately the welsummer roosters were very suspectible to heat stroke- 100% death and also hens older than two yrs also died.   It was surprising as they were not particularly heavy or big chickens..    I had wanted to try a blend of welsummer and marans to see what eggs they would make..  shiny red eggs or??  but never got to doing that.

Is there anything that you haven't tried yet?!?

sorry...

btw what do y'all like to use for memory storage?
Mine are double backed. I have a slave drive that I can plug into my computer to add pics or find old ones. It is a huge drive dedicated to only pictures has thousands. But my individual sd cards are kept after being filled too.

All pics are in the slave drive, didn't know if that was clear or not

Flash drives and 2 backup external hard drives. I've lost all of my data before when I dumped a mug of coffee on my laptop. Luckily our computer guy was able to retrieve all of the info and put it on an external hard drive for me, but lesson learned. I now have 2 laptops and a tablet, back up everything religiously, and can transfer work files to the home computer and vice versa.

I thought they looked very nice! Langshans have that 'handsome' look, not sure how to describe it, yours were giving that too.

To expand a little bit.. solid black NN are extremely rare.. most marans are not solid colored- except for cuckoo. It is way unlikely to get such black birds from a non solid NN and a copper marans. If cuckoo was involved then it would not be a cross, would have to be a second generation or more mix away from the first cross because both of them lack the cuckoo gene. Langshans while pretty rare.. would be much easier to get very black birds from crossing with them...

the last detail was the tail being relatively long on the pullet. Langshans have a long/longish tail...

I searched though Langshan photo's on the forum and found some roosters that look almost exactly like what my NN would if he were fully feathered. (remembering what he looked like at 6 mo old in November) Nearly the same all over with the teeny bit of red on the shoulder/wing. I'm really looking forward to getting back up there to see what he looks like now. Unfortunately, that may not happen until the end of March at this rate. It's so frustrating.

iCloud for the raw images (because I take them on my phone), Dropbox for the saved photos, and a back up hard drive for the computer itself. I have always been bad about all of it, soI like to keep it as automated as possible...

So the second hatch went well... I haven't counted all the chicks because there are just too many... I'll count the bad eggs later tonight when I tear the hatcher down. All in all, I got a ridiculous amount of NN! 80/205 were from another farm where they had used a rooster (NN x Silkie) with a few different hens: (Rock / Barred Rock / New Hampshire). Looks like some have retained some patchy black pigmentation. Only a couple have feathered feet... when will I know if the feathers are Silkie type or other?

Feathered Feet! @Kev won't like this!
Was thinking of @Kassaundra , but the pigment is so minimal in these... I love your birds! I'd love to see more pictures!

One of the more interesting tri-color chipmunks for @DesertChic

Silkied feathers are recessive. Assuming the sire has only 1 copy and the various dams had none, then you will have exactly 0 silkied chicks. You could have some spring up in the next generation if both parents have a copy.
