Remember, all my Naked Necks stem from a cross of a blue Silkie roo and buff LF NN hens.
I knew (even though I knew squat about the genetics) to get where I wanted I needed to add black skin from Silkies to start.

Lisa and Kev including anyone else that understands Lavender, could you explain the aspects of this color of feathers. It seems that there are not heritage birds that are lavender but then I know of none that are blue except the Andalusian. Am I correct in believing that lavender and blue are different genetically ?

The three in the last picture, is there a possiblity that any of them are carriers of n gene or since it is dominate mean that they either show n gene by having less feathers especially on the neck or not and that no chick carries the gene unless it it exhibited ? Thank you for the pictures

below my Lemon Buff Neked Neck Cochin Hen with her chicks, I will be breeding the Naked Neck one back to her to have Blue Necked Neck Cochins...

They all have *genetic contributions* from Naked Neck, Silkie, Frizzle Cochin, Ameraucana, and Jersey Giant. The hens in #2 pen have another gen crossed out to Plymouth Rock.

The way naked neck works is either they show it and have it, or they didn't inherit the gene for naked neck at all (and can't pass it on). So those feather-neck chicks don't carry the naked neck gene.

I am very happy to have those feather-neck chicks, though. They should have the blue feather gene, blue egg gene, black skin gene, and 2 of them have frizzle gene. They are all three from #2 pen and are nice big chicks.
