Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Nice birds. are you trying for salmon color too? I can't remember the genetics for the salmon coloring.. that silkie roo doesn't have the black breast, he will cause offspring with light breasts... Really like that 'grizzle' coloring on silkie pullet behind him.
I am not trying for salmon color. But I do have a young rooster also from NTF that has salmon faverolle in the mix. Here is his pic and a pic of frizzle cochin rooster that I will be breeding to these girls in the future.

My NN are a cross with Ameraucana, NN and Barred Rock. The girls all lay a green egg and have pea combs, and my male is red/white and has a pea comb. Since EEs have very similar traits to Ameraucana, I would say they would come out to have mostly pea combs, but a few with single combs. I would keep a few girls that have pea combs, and breed them back to your boy.

ETA: I guess to be technical "Modified Pea Combs"

to add to the above, the colored egg gene is very closely linked to pea comb gene. so if you want colored egg layers, keeping pea combed birds is the way to go.

however if that isn't important.. feel free to breed your NN roo with anything you like. breed with barred rocks to make barred NN, to delawares to make NN with white bodies and barred tails.. several on here have projects- like the Hoodias- NN crossed with Houdans, someone is working on NN polish.. there is already a well established NN presence in silkies- Showgirls. the possibilites are endless.
Have fun!

Gotcha, was wondering... encouraging to see so many projects going on! :)

used to have frizzled NN- loved them. you'll have fun with that trait.

Is this breed especially broody? I have heard that Silkies and Cochins are the best broodies but I came across quite a bit of evidence to suggest that Turkens not only go broody often but are great mothers. I am looking to add a broody breed to my flock to hatch the occasional small clutch for me once a year. Any input would be great!

Thanks!
