Nankin Discussion Thread

Pics
If they are girls are they reasonable layers ? It seems that the Nankins are flighty but there is plenty of space for them. Any characteristic info would be most welcome for them and GLPs.

My great thanks for the advice to let the broodies do all the rearing.....fingers crossed they have done a wonderful job - far less hassle for me !

agreed! I have given up on incubating broodies are best! nankins are some of the friendliest birds we have we love them! My son uses one of the cockerels for showmanship in 4H very tame sweet birds. BUT you want to not handle the cockerels until they have grown up and are crowing and with hens. It really works, they don't turn mean if you leave them alone until they are older, minor handling is ok but carrying them around can turn them mean when they are full gull grown b/c they will challenge you. Polish are good birds, my gold lace is really goofy even for a polish she is a little crazy, I have had better polish!

So i'm thinking that my guy might have some nankin in him . i think he is nankin , oegb , and serama ?????? and maybe some dutch in there also .

Hi,

Just started reading through this.

I have just received the proposal to have the Nankin admitted to the APA. It refers to the ABA for description. The color description refers to: Refer to black tailed red as in Nankin description. I don't seem to have that in my APA Standard, so I guess I need to email the originator of the paperwork. The other breeds referred to in the black tailed red descriptions are not very clear either, so..back to the drawing board.

I would love your input Saladin. I actually have some here that seem to fit the type, but I need to look at some good ones.

Thanks! Now I see it....just looked in the wrong spot. I still need them to send it to me in digital form though.

Technically it is a copyright infringement if you scan anything from either Standard without permission, but thank you for the offer. It is up to the club to supply me with that.

If something has a copyright it should not be copied without permission. People like to throw around "Fair Use", but that really requires that four criteria be met....all four.
One of my jobs at the university was trying to keep the faculty from breaking too many copyright laws. Schools have more rights to copy things than most of us have and they can virtually make one copy of anything...but then they tell everyone it is on reserve in the library knowing that students will make copies of it. That is called "systemic" violation of copyright. There is a lot to it, but asking permission is the best way to go.

If you can't get permission to copy something for 4H, you can alter the info in enough ways that it does not lose it's meaning, but is changed enough to appear different....does that make sense? In this digital world it is very easy to lift another persons work and most people don't think anything of it, so publishers are making examples of people. Just trying to keep people aware...............if you directly scan and use something it could be a problem and I know that people do it now. I just explain it as I am doing now. You had good intentions.
