Nankins

Okay some more pics I took today with flash, see if they show them any better.

#1 Babies from #2 pair, 2m old exactly. 4 pullets 1 cockeral
#2 Second pair from Doug-damaged comb, need to move pens as he wont let me get his hens pic, he gets in front of her to protect.
#3 Richard cockeral from April
#4 Richard hen from April
#5 Older rosecomb pair from Doug

Thanks for looking at them again, Joy

Joy does the cock with the damaged comb have the correct leg color? I cant tell from the pic if he has the pink stripe down his leg. What does the comb look like on the cockerel by him. If the cock has the correct leg color and the cockerel has a decent comb you might pair him with the hen from me. He seems to be the darkest cock in the group. Im still not crazy about the rosecomb. I would ask Glenn Finch what he has in rosecombs and see if he might have something you could add to your rosecomb group.

I need to take the cock out and check, I was trying to see when I was taking pics, but couldnt tell, the one from you does. The cockeral and pullets combs from that roo look fine, I dont see any defects . Where is Glenn? Thanks Joy

Hi Nankins are not a cold hardy breed..the roosters combs freeze but they are so small you can easily provide them with a heat lamp or a heat panel to go under when its too cold for them. I live in Illinois and it gets cold here but i keep them in an above freezing coop...Chris

Any Nankin people still around? A good friend of mine that is working on Nankins gave us a pair so my girls can use them for showmanship. They are such cute little things! They are young but will work great for what we need them for. :)

We now have a SC Nankin trio that I am looking forward to breeding. Our boy Clyde has a couple of titles now and we hope to have the ladies judged in the spring. They are very friendly and talkative. I just love them. One of the girls has been rather broody of late but it is wearing off a little after about a week of taking eggs away from her. I hope she goes broody again in the spring.

Anyone have an opinion regarding incubating Nankin eggs over having a boody set?

Hi Its been a while since I posted pics of Nanny! It was 10/12 weeks in the last post! I would say that he she is about 7 1/2 months now! to be honest I don't know the true age because i got it from someone who ordered a rare assortment, and since they didn't know what it was didn't want it! I am guessing because I got my standard chicks about a month after I got Nanny.
I need criticism on on quality s/he likes to play in the mud, it's tail and wings still have some even after giving it a bath! LOL! What about beak,is it normal all of yours have short tipped beaks, s/he. If she is it trying to crow because it's the only one of it's kind? Being as its comb just did finally turned red I am guessing girl! I would like to breed it so criticism is a MUST! Thanks!
