Thanks everyone. My son is 4.5 and when I told him that Bolt had died he cried a bit and asked if Jesus had come down to take him to heaven. He then asked me if Bolt would be wrapped up and placed in a tomb for 3 days like Jesus was... that made me smile.
One thing you might think about is adopting an older puppy or dog from a rescue group. You could then be sure that this dog was already immune to Parvo virus before it comes into your home.

We actually were ready to get a dog from a local shelter a couple of weeks ago but they wouldn't let us b/c WE give our dogs their vaccines instead of taking them to the vet. Supposedly they only accept vet records and will not let you adopt without them. Plus, if we were honest about the number of animals we have right now I'm not sure what they would think (we found 3 kittens that someone abandoned at our barn and also rescued a cat that we just found out is pregnant... PLUS 2 other dogs and a cat, not to mention outside pets). We had found the perfect dog for our family too... my boys loved him but the shelter said no. I'm going to keep my eye out for either a fully vaccinated older pup or an adult dog though.
