Need some prayers for my puppy... update post #22 & post #101

Parvo can live in the soil for many months and in your home too. Everything that puppy touched needs to be bleached with a solution of 1 ounce bleach to 30 ounces water or use a parvocide on things that can be damaged by bleach.

Unfortunately pet stores are horrible places to buy pups from because not only are the pups stressed which can lower immunity but also because any person can ask to see a puppy and can pass parvo and other diseases on that way. Puppies can have its first shot or shots but they may not work because they still have antibodies from their mother which will nullify the vaccine....hence the vaccines are given every 3 weeks or so.

Some breeds are susceptible to parvo like Dobies and Rotties and a series of shots is needed for all breeds. However most puppies will leave their breeder with only one shot due to age factors and must receive additional shots every 3 or so weeks until about 16 weeks old.

As a breeder I do not allow anyone onto my property or to touch my pups before they have received at least one vaccine and only then when the person has been sprayed with parvocide as I do not know where they have been prior to coming to my home and Parvo can be carried in on shoes or clothing. When I bring a new puppy into my home unless it came from another show breeder I trust the hpup is esentially quarantined for 2 weeks before it joins my guys.

Your son sure sounds like he's got a good grasp on Jeasus and that will bring both of you through this.

Please heed people's warning, not Just mine either, of disinfecting your yard/property. As I have said, and others have also, Parvo can live in the soil for a long time and has to be killed by bleach or an approved Kennel disinfectant to kill the virus from any place your puppy was. It might be a lot of work but in the end it will be well worth it.

Thanks. I did disinfect everything which was not east to do at all. I did it the day I came home from the vet b/c I was worried about my other dogs. I'm not going to bring in any puppy that is not already fully vaccinated ... I could not stand going through that again.

Agreed and you have brought your son up soooo beautifully....God bless and sorry for your loss. Thanks for caring so to love and care for Bolt!

So sorry for your loss...as someone mentioned here earlier..never buy a dog or cat from a pet store! They get the ones that people can't sell, or are sick..and they know it!
I didn't read through all of your posts, but I do hope you did, or will at least put something in the paper about this. I used to rescue and foster dogs. Now there's a place to go looking for your pets. They have been saved from being put down,,yes, they have pups. They have their shots up to where they should be, you may need to finish them. And, they will have been fixed, or you will have that included in the cost when you rescue. Also, if you get a pup that is around 6 months old, that pup has been trained by a very loving foster parent.

You wouldn't have to worry so much about potty training, leash training, barking. Watch out, I'm on a roll here.

Anyway, I hope things work out better for you next time around. I really wouldn't get a pup that hasn't had it's shots at all real soon. It would be heart breaking to have that happen again so soon.
