Why do people do that? Move to the country then complain about what they find there? Drives me NUTS!!
I live in the country, in a HORSE community no less. There are probably 20 horses on my road.... and two neighbors who HATE horses.
My old mare got out one day several years ago, a big limb fell over the fence. This man saw her, called animal control and reported that my horse was loose.
By the time AC got here, I had her back up where she belonged, with the limb removed and fence fixed, had gone to several neighbors and apologized, including this particular guy. Not that Ginger had caused any damage, but you know, I just wanted to let them know that she wasn't out intentionally and what had happened that had allowed her to get out.
Well, AC arrived, interviewed the guy, and he told the officer that he HATED horses with a passion, they stink, they're annoying and people who own them are rednecks with an aversion to progress.
Yep, all of that was clearly stated on the report.
The AC officer asked him WHY did you move to a horse community if you hate horses?
His response: I got such a good deal on the house, I just couldn't pass it up.
The AC officer was very nice and told me the guy was just trying to cause trouble. As long as the horse didn't cause any damage when it got out, there was nothing they could do.
Well, a couple days later, I'm out in the pasture, brushing the old girl, and I see that she's got something shinny on her coat. I get to looking and trying to figure out what it is.... it's BB's!!
Apparently when the guy saw her in his yard, he began shooting her with BB's to get her out.
I picked over 50 BB's out of her left side over a two week period, as they worked themselves out. I called AC and reported it. The same officer came out, but unfortunately since I didn't SEE him do it, there was nothing they could do. They went out and had a word with the man, who said he had a right to defend his property from the "beast". The AC officer informed him of the severity of animal cruelty charges and informed him that if the horse hadn't attacked them, wounded someone or damaged his property, and as long as the owner of the horse was aware that the horse was out, unintentionally and had her caught and confined to her appropriate area in a timely manner, and offered to pay for any damage she caused, that he couldn't justify shooting her. Now, if she were aggressive and caused trouble, then he'd have a right to defend himself and his property, or if she were out regularly and her owner had no intention to remedy the issue then there would be further steps that could be taken.
I could totally understand if something bad had happened, but seriously, she was out for less than 20 minutes.
And the other neighbor who hates horses is just as bad.... but for some reason his wife is always wanting to be friendly and chattie and such.
Our county ordinance allows livestock. We live in a horse community. It's very obvious, as you drive down the road that there are horses and various livestock in the neighborhood. If you don't like it, don't move here!!!
If I were you, I'd go out and get a couple roosters, offer her some fresh eggs and a copy of the ordinance that states the requirements and limitations for owning livestock and sit back and wait for the fun to commence.
