Thank you very much!It probably got trapped against the fence and died. This sounds like what my dad bought back in the day for our dogs. It killed a full grown rabbit once, and my dad somehow toned it down but I don't know how he did it. I wouldn't use it around cats...
3 dozen most farms (bring your own carton)I think the purchase price of organic eggs from the store would suffice, around here it's over 4 bucks a dozen. At the cheap store.
Hunting dogs have a high prey drive and require physical barriers. That's why hunters have to use GPS devices to keep up with them.So these fences are obviously higher voltage but he told us he had a electric fence for her and the other dog and it didn't stop them. They would sit just close enough to the fence line to wear out the battery enough for them to cross.
It just sounds like this guy hasn't properly trained his dog.
Install a cut out switch to turn the power off and on.(Walmart sells them)I definitely need something I can turn off easily when we go outside. I have small children that I can't risk them touching it.
I'm still so distraught and upset over this.
It's frustrating because we are still cleaning up the aftermath and my kids keep saying they miss their chickens
Sorry, I was trying to emphasis the significance of the HOUR before & after DAYLIGHT (as well as the hour before & after dark) These windows of time are when the most chickens are killed ( because predators of the day & night are both hunting at the same time)It was daylight. Pretty bright out.
Kiki when did this happen? How sad! Do you still have chickens or do you just do quail now?My own dogs ate my first flock of birds.
I built a dog proof coop.
Not sure if you bought a fencing system yet, but we use Premier Fencing (we've tried Kencove and a few others but Premier is the best). We do not use it to contain poultry because that's a losing battle, plus hawks.I definitely need something I can turn off easily when we go outside. I have small children that I can't risk them touching it.

Low impedance fencing won't kill, even if the animal gets caught in it - they could die from shock perhaps in the sense of stress (a heart attack potentially I suppose). Over the past 8 years of using low impendence Premier fencing, I've had a number of critters get themselves in a bind (literally) in the fencing. Once a deer, a couple turtles, rabid racoon, etc. We've kept cats around the fencing without any issues. Our dogs learned quickly that if touched, it's not fun and they don't even try. We use it close to 2,000 feet of it on our property to contain our dogs with a wired fence charger.Thank you very much!It probably got trapped against the fence and died.
