Neighbours left a thinly veiled threat to our chickens

I would not take any action at all but I would call 101 - Local community Police - and get it on record that you have had what you believe to be a veiled threat. You are not in the wrong so don't put yourself there. Reporting this very strange action protects you and may be very useful later. There could well be other incidents that you are not aware of.

This is why avoiding to talk about law, politics, or religion DOESN'T work.

If people would more actively engage in positive correct teaching of youth, be religious and good people, teach their kids to be law abiding, and avoid warfare and the spirit of warfare this would have taken care of this before it even started.

...

On a side note;

I agree that fanning the flames will just incite more war.

Right now people don't know how to live or act as good people. They've lost their pride and well being of being good clean and organized people. And its not just here but everywhere.

Salmonella could come from chickens. But it could also come from fish, fruit, and raw meat. Some have even found it in bad dog food.

So its not definite that it came from you. (But it could come from being an 'egg thief'; them or their dog having the dog eat raw eggs.)

And its silly that they let the vet twist them this way of pointing towards you. And he did so to manipulate them to not be paying attention to the vet's big bill of service he's sending them, as a deflection.

People who have dogs should expect that dogs are going to have a vet bill every year if they are active dogs out in the country. Often its for foxtails, or stitches on getting cut up, or pulling porcupine quills out of the dogs nose and snout.

So its kind of pointless to be mad at someone for this.

I would likely ask why they put that there for you. See what they say. It'd be uncomfortable coming up with an excuse I'd think.

I like the cameras, not sure if I'd tell them or not. Telling them may prevent them from trying anything, or it may make them try to avoid detection when they do try something.

I'd say reporting it is a good idea as well.

I'd not offer them eggs as I'm sure they'd say they got sick from your eggs.

Hi guys. This was quite a while ago now and things have certainly settled down. We didn’t catch them doing anything to the chickens on camera but we hadn’t reviewed the footage for months and when we did we had three months of footage showing them throwing bags of dog poo into the communal hedge along our row of houses. The awfulness of this was compounded by the fact that there is a dog poo bin a few metres up the road. There was an appeal by our local counscillor on Facebook about it after they had done a local litter pick and found them all and when we looked there they were, night and day every day! So we sent the counscillor the footage and they got a very big fine!
Since then they have been friendly and cordial with all the neighbours as I think they are very embarrassed! They still occasionally throw salt around at the top of our path as they seem to think that chickens don’t walk through it, but I just wash it away again as I don’t think this is good for our chickens or their dogs if they were to lick/peck at it.
They really are an odd bunch - but there’s always that one difficult family in the row of otherwise normal neighbours wherever you are I guess! 😂

The laziness of some people just astounds me. Glad to hear things are better.

What a bizarre situation. Salt? Are they Gypsy by chance? I have many roma friends and they have some distinct superstitions.
