Nest Litter

What are you folks using for nest litter? What is best? How often do you change it?

I have 6 hens laying (5 growing up). I have 3 nest boxes. 2 of them have wood shavings like on the floor, the third one has straw. I have 1 hen that prefers straw, 4 that prefer the wood shavings and 1 that doesn't care where (or in what) she lays (yesterday's egg was on the floor in the corner by the waterer).

We use shredded paper. I have a lot of paperwork for work so there is never a shortage. So far so good.

I'm just using pine shavings, because that's what I have on hand. I may try shredded paper if I can get my husband to bring some home from work.
