Nevadans?

As Elizabeth said the vaccine is for birds that are at least 7 weeks away from POL at the time of first vaccination! And Missy since it is chicks that are at most risk, and I can't find any information on if the eggs are safe to eat after vaccinating, I would not vaccinate the older hens until you can find info on how long you have to wait to consume the eggs from your girls after doing so.

So I vote for next weekend even though I have quite a few chicks that will not be old enough for their first dose yet. I am trying to squeeze all the Polish and the 2 other sets of older chicks into the time frame before they get too close to POL to administer safely.

That works for me. Are we meeting in one spot and giving injections, or is the bottle going to travel? If I'm not vaccinating hens, I can put all the little kids in the dog kennel and travel wherever I need to go. And I have a morning client until 10am, but I figured not everyone is willingly up doing stuff that early anyway. Not in our house, at least.

And since I intend to rotate my flock out and rehome hens that aren't at peak laying, there's less at risk if they get infected. (Other than another royally stressful decontamination routine.)

I'll go with non standards then because I know some EE's have been crossed with other breeds and get big combs or could lay any color eggs (blue, green, brown, even white). These should have no chance of those mutations as all the past generations have been Ameracaunas as well.

I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!

The way I figure it... with my flock, anyway... I have no interest in showing. So I'm not going to get in trouble for saying "ameraucana" when I have a single-comb or non-standard feathering. I'm sure others would disagree, but my egg carton doesn't care.

We're excited about tomorrow! After this next client, I have to go shopping, then bake the cake late tonight. Thank goodness everything has calmed down with this coryza business! I actually have TIME to bake a cake at 10pm!!!

I even transplanted about 200 more seedlings today, instead of mopping the house with bleach. (Though we did Lysol every single shoe and doorknob after checking on the little kids.)
Day 3 of no symptoms!!!!

good news! I would guess that we would convene in one location to get our doses of the vaccine and then we'd each go home and vaccinate. I have never vaccinated anything myself before. should be interesting.

Congrats I don't know what's going on but it sounds like a good thing.
First day of WCC is over

two more left!! I need to start studying for tomorrow's royalty test.

I don't know what that is but good luck!

HI there....well it has taken me 2 nights to catch up on the thread!!

So sad to hear about the sick chicks and the ones you had to put down, this is probably one of the worst stories I have heard in all my years....way to close to home. Such a bummer. I had something go through and infect my young cockerels last year, upper respitory, runny noses, raspy breathing, face swelling... was fast moving killed a handful of cockerels. I sent one to the state vet lab for necropsy and they found nothing, no lesions, no virus...no answers. the only thing that helped was injections of Tylan 50...... saved a few and they are did fine. At the time I wondered if over crowding caused it or mice not sure.... still it is so depressing to not know what to do or how to save them or if you should keep trying.....

I want to personally thank everyone for stopping by the swap and saying hi!! It was so nice see everyone!!

I would love to come to the potluck but my daughter informed me that she has a birthday party at 2 pm tomorrow, my son and hubbie will be in VC at 4-H shooting already(I had thought I could leave them at shooting and run over for a few minutes but daughter threw a wrench in that plan!) I hope to attend a meet up in the future!

If anyone is interested I have more chicks available and the incubator is full too!! Yikes :)
Giant cochins hatched last weekend. variety of colors, rooster and one hen is lemon blue(buff over blue project variety) and other hen is Buff over black. I am getting blues, lemon blues, buffs and blacks.
