Seth, they're stunning! If I could have roosters I'd take them. But then, I'd be keeping Blue if I could as well. But with this whole urban farm thing we have going on, we're so careful to keep on our neighbors' good side. We do things like clean poop up at least every other day, compost in completely closed containers, don't let our dogs bark, and offer eggs and produce to the closest neighbors.
And speaking of keeping nuisances down... we went by Moana Nursery today and they had no diatomaceous earth for sale. They said ALL of it on the market was being tested for lead, because it's also offered as "food grade." They don't know when it'll be back. They offered me Seven dust and Captain Jack's Dead Bug. I got the Captain Jack's because it looks a lot less toxic. But I can't wait to have DE back! I want a pesticide that will be totally harmless if a chicken eats it. With straw in the yard, animal manure, and the water from the garden, I have a lot more flies. I really want something to sprinkle around to control that, without keeping down the chicken population as well. Suggestions?
ETA: I found it on Amazon, with free shipping. So we'll see when it comes, and how it works.
