Nevadans?

My BW lily and W fluffy cthe curly toed chick looks like fluffly except for feet so she got left out

They are SO pretty Seth! I wish I had room for the roosters, they are looking really nice! Too bad you can't keep them because those would be great for showing. The girl in picture # 1 has good color in her tail. The more color the better. I like the head and muff on the pullet in picture # 2.

Looks like you are taking great care of them! Keep up the good work!

Seth, they're stunning! If I could have roosters I'd take them. But then, I'd be keeping Blue if I could as well. But with this whole urban farm thing we have going on, we're so careful to keep on our neighbors' good side. We do things like clean poop up at least every other day, compost in completely closed containers, don't let our dogs bark, and offer eggs and produce to the closest neighbors.

And speaking of keeping nuisances down... we went by Moana Nursery today and they had no diatomaceous earth for sale. They said ALL of it on the market was being tested for lead, because it's also offered as "food grade." They don't know when it'll be back. They offered me Seven dust and Captain Jack's Dead Bug. I got the Captain Jack's because it looks a lot less toxic. But I can't wait to have DE back! I want a pesticide that will be totally harmless if a chicken eats it. With straw in the yard, animal manure, and the water from the garden, I have a lot more flies. I really want something to sprinkle around to control that, without keeping down the chicken population as well. Suggestions?

ETA: I found it on Amazon, with free shipping. So we'll see when it comes, and how it works.

Missy, I buy my food grade DE at the feed store. It comes in 50 # bags and that goes a long way!

How are your chickens doing? I just can't believe how contagious this disease is!!!! SCARY!!!!

by the way, they also have DE at One Stop Feed in Sparks in smaller bags. It is much cheaper than what they sell at Greens.

Seth, it looks as though your little darkie is a roo, but i wouldnt lose hope just yet. Showgirls have a funny way of turning around on ya. As for me i have three roos and one girl :( oh well, huh? Btw your first two roosters are absolutely stunning. I looooove them!

Im a little dissapointed with gregory pec, though...he hasnt got any gold in his feathers yet! I sure hope he grows up to be colorful, i waited so long for a big colorful roo!

Thanks for the info on the DE! I really didn't want to buy it at Moana Nursery anyway... it's a great store, but it's expensive.

Candy, Barbeque lived through the night and sounded better this morning. She's still very wheezy, but you can't hear her unless you're right outside the coop. Nobody else is making breathing sounds. And Original is INDIGNANT! Now that the plastic is off of the mini-run, she can see outside without a problem, and cusses us out if she sees us in the yard and I won't let her out. I threw in an old apple and some strawberry tops today, to pacify them. Everyone else got yogurt this morning, but I figured it was a waste of time to give probiotics at the same time as antibiotics. Tuesday morning, they're allowed out of the yard, if nobody else has come down with symptoms.

Something postive, though... once this has run through the whole flock, they'll be immune to it. I just have to keep medicine and vaccine onhand for any new chickens.

We were throwing the eggs away, but I figure we can just mark them, then cook them up and feed them back to the chickens.
