Nevadans?

I have 2 BLRWs and they are super friendly.
My cochins are probably the most shy of these chicks but don't seem to be dumb. I have a broody BO right now. Trying to break her but she's staying firm right now. Caught another BO eating an egg.

hoping it's an isolated incident. I love my EEs. You should definitely get some in the future. The eggs are so pretty and they are really reliable layers. I have 3 green layers and 1 cream colored layer.

Of all the new chicks, the smartest is the Minorca, who is already the most devious. She was the first to punish Jerk when I put her in the yard. The friendliest is the exchequer leghorn, which I totally didn't expect. I've heard leghorns are flighty. She's not jumping up into my arms, but she follows me around the yard and talks to me. And she's still about the size of a mourning dove... so cute! The cochin is the most docile, and hardly makes a sound, even when she's scared. I can pick her up and carry her around everywhere, and she just hangs out in my arms, waiting for me to put her down. And the bravest one, unfortunately, is the silkie... because I'm more and more positive it's a rooster. I would love to keep him, though. His fluffiness makes me smile.

hahahahah tyler still thinks we are semi-sane

I am not shure when we will go in on te fall order but the nice thing is that meyer hatchery only requiers a minimum of three chicks or 3 bantums. There are also ducks and the other odds and ends

Quote: OK I had every intention of working the whole day but Steve insisted we go out for dinner. After that we stopped by the dance for a little bit. I sure enjoyed myself! Felt a bit guilty for not working straight through but my back was shot anyway. The only real worker here these past couple of days is Steve anyway.
It'll be a celebration when you're done moving since its taken so long! I'm sure Steve will give you a special smooch and a tap on the behind when you're passing each other with arm loads of stuff!
HAHAHA!!! You sure you haven't been spying on us?!!

Sunny how are you holding up? I know on top of moving and your birthday, you've been through a lot lately. It makes it even more difficult to get through even the normal day, let alone having all the other things on your mind. Wish I was closer. I may not be a lot of help, but I'd do what I could.
My back has had it of course. But Steve has been working his tail off and is almost done now.

Such good news about Elvis and I'm glad the flock shows no sign of lower respiratory infection. That is very good news!

Love the venue!!!

Hey there! I'm a soon-to-be chicken owner here in Reno! Just waiting on my coop and chickens. I have 3 blue lace red wyonedette's coming via a friends order. I'm also looking for a couple rhode island reds. Is there anyone in the Reno area (or relatively close) that has some chicks available mid-July? I would like 2.
Thanks so much! What a great forum!
Hi As shad!!! Welcome to the Nevada thread!

I'll add your name to the opening post now. :)
Does anyone on here get their birds NPIP tested?

I'm looking to take some birds out of state and the state I'm going to may or may not require paperwork. Is there a small flock plan in place in Nevada?

Any help and/or advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.
Hi Lacy Blues!!! Welcome to the Nevada thread!
frow.gif

A member of this thread called about getting NPIP certified about a year and a half ago and was told then that no one in Nevada was certified yet. They don't even have the testing facilities here so the tests would need to be sent out of state (probably CA). Let us know if you find out that that info has changed (since it's been awhile).
I'll add your name to the opening post now. :)
today I said, "screw carpal tunnel!"

and did some work on the kids' playhouse. I got most of the plywood on the walls. I am piecing it together since I'm using the leftovers from the coop but I think it will look good once I caulk and paint it.
YAY!!! I bet the kids are so excited!!! Good luck finishing the playhouse up.
Missy came over on Wednesday and put up quite a bit of fencing for me and helped work on the new coops. We got a ton of work done and it felt really good to make so much progress in only 1 day.

Thanks everyone! I don't have much to add to the forum just yet, but once I get those chicks I'm sure I will. Ill post pics when I get them. I'm very excited and nervous! I've never owned chickens before. Byc has GREAT info! I'm so glad I found the "locals"!:D

Hi Sunny Dawn,

I just moved here about a year ago from CA. They have recently started a small flock registration program that was very affordable. If Nevada doesn't have things set up, I wonder if I could still register through CA? They're trying real hard to get all the flocks NPIP certified and are making it as easy as possible for the small flock owners to do so. I'm looking forward to finding out if that's a possibility.

On Thursday, I saw a client who lives in Washington but comes to Reno yearly for her Yoga For The Special Child certification, and gets a massage or 2 from me. This year, she asked to see my chicken setup, since she and her partner just got 4 pullets that aren't quite to POL. I showed her around and gave her a few pointers, then directed her to BYC! I told her it was the BEST source of chicken knowledge, and a lot easier to understand than the agricultural websites. She made sure to write down the URL before she left.

Last week was so busy that I left parts of my brain lying around. This week is a lot clearer, but I'm sure it'll book up. I just bought 2 boxes of peaches at Smart & Final... 69 cents a pound. So, in the Tradition of Me, I naturally bought 50lbs.

They're still hard as a rock, but that means I have a few spare days before I have to process them. Some will be frozen, some in jams and syrups. I need to run by the thrift stores and see if I can find any unchipped mason jars. We give jams and chutneys to people for Christmas, but most of them don't know to return the jars.

Everyone is all better! no more sniffles and no more bad smells. PHEW! those shots worked great and the birds took em like CHAMPS. even yesterday when Mark was out of town and I had to give all 3 their shots by myself they were all very calm and held still and didnt make a peep. ahhh i just love my birds. And you know how stressed I got the day all the animals started getting sick? (and boy does it take a alot to stress me out) this is just one of those times i prove to myself WHY i try not to stress, hahaha. I am bummed though because I had wanted to use Gregory Peck for an olive egger project next year and now i guess it will just have to be a personal project.

Sunny, sheesh glad to see you! I was hoping you hadnt vdropped off the face of the planet and lucky for us you didnt. HOORAY! Thanks for mentioning my venue! I was so excited that I had raced home to show you guys the pics, LOL. I really wanted some opinions since Im hoping every single one of you will be there.

We are too! I'd had chickens for many years when I joined and I've still learned a lot here. :)
I sure hope Nevada is doing something like that or will shortly.

There are a lot of us here from CA. Hubby and I are from the Bay Area. We've been here since 2005.
