Nevadans?

Good afternoon! I woke up thinking, "Oh, how warm it is today! I think I'll work outside!" And now I'm thinking, "Oh, look at all the projects I can wrap up in the house today!"

The good news is, I have 4 big goals that I think I can have completed this week:
NaNoWriMo (word goal completed, might try to finish the entire novel rough draft by the end of the month)
canning (I just have tomatillos waiting in the freezer)
soapmaking (today and Thursday)
and one painting. I'm waiting for a friend to get me a hard copy picture of his daughter, but I think I might do a still life instead while I wait.

It feels so good to be almost done with so much stuff!

Hmm... Well I have had a pretty crummy week especially with cars but on the plus side we MAY have a foster bull terrier girl gracing our presence soon! Fingers crossed! Also I have some (hopefully showgirl) baby chicks due this week! Purely accidental, caught my silkie setting eggs and upon candling they were developed and I didn't have the heart to toss em. Here's hoping for a darn hen to hatch around here this year! (both of my surprise chicks from the sneaky leghorn have died... One dissapeared mysteriously...)

Wow! How awesome! Well she would be lucky to have you 2 as foster parents. Hope it works out.

Oh yes! I've seen his work many times! Beautiful. Wasn't he the one that went around the country (spent quite a bit of time in the Appalachians) taking pics of working class folks? Got a lot of great pics of folks that lived pretty hard lives (I'm way underemphasizing the poverty these folks lived with). Somehow he captured a beauty that most would not have seen. Really awesome artist! I saw a special on him. I believe it was on PBS but it could have been the history channel.

Are you coming to the cookie exchange? Steve and I would love to see you there.
I'll have to look for that special. Hopefully it's on Netflix!

Re: cookie exchange. I'm not much of a baker, but I might just give it a try. You'd think it would be right up my alley since it's all formulas but... When is this soirée?

Hi Fellow Nevadans,

I just joined the site and love it. I'm in Fernley, NV (29 miles from Reno). I'd love to connect with anyone near me and talk chicken. I hope everyone has a fabulous Thanksgiving.

UGH well it has been a nightmare. She is not on the mend yet. Turns out the timing belt malfunctioned which caused the spark plugs to explode out of the head and actually stripped it, so the head will have to be taken to a machine shop to be re-threaded. The only guy in town mark trusts (because he is a volkswagen guy) cant get to it until this weekend, so since this happened last weekend and i just started woking in south reno we decided to get the ghia going so that i would have something to drive.
So we bought tires for the ghia and spent all day at the dmv re-registering it and went to test drive it after putting on the new tires and the lo and behold we pull out of the driveway and the brakes failed. Had to spend all weekend working on the brakes but finally got it going late sunday night.
Drove home yesterday evening after a ten hour shift and i got in an accident on the freeway in marks car. (got rear ended but wasnt bad damage at all). Got off the freeway and the battery cables had gotten knocked loose so i couldnt start the car at all and had to get taken care of to get home.
So we fixed the ghia again last night but I had too much anxiety about driving marks car and having something happen to it in my care so i opted to get a ride with the only other person i worked with who had to be at work 2 hours before me making my total workday 12 hours.....
and again tomorrow and friday, yeesh.

sorry to complain, i have never had car problems, and i have seriously never had all these things happen at once!!! Anyway my head should be taken care of this weekend and then we will have to find the further damage from there. The valves could be bent badly but i just dont want to think about it until we get to that point. WHAT A NIGHTMARE! (and all in the first week in two years that i have had to work farther than bicycling distance from my house)

And now we are trying to save this dog in Los Angeles from being put to sleep and we have BT rescue of Oregon backing us to pull her but the shelter is being extremely difficult and i will just not ever forgive myself if she gets put down due to red tape and massive mistakes!

Im such a mess lately, hahaha

I don't get why a shelter would be so difficult when someone is ready to give the dog a good home.

It always confuses me.

I hope things lighten up for awhile! You need chocolate cake! Right now I'm baking a super-dark chocolate cake with fudge filling and cream cheese frosting for my husband's work crew. So long story short... they're all female, except for Russ. He came home nearly brain-dead, saying something about cycles syncing up. Lol. So I'm baking the closest thing I can to a mood-altering food and still staying legal.

I know there are some people in California who post on here. Maybe they know someone in LA who might be willing to go and adopt this dog for you and then you guys could work out the transportation from there?
