Nevadans?

There was an article in the recent Backyard Poultry about the woes of trying to raise chickens in Michigan. Very similar and the Right to Farm Act is pretty ineffective. Apparently back in the land rush days developers in Michigan passed a bunch of laws to prohibit chickens (in order to have a few chickens you had to own 5 acres and then were allotted one extra bird per acre afterwards) so that the townships could uber-develop their communities. The laws are pretty antiquated in light of the Urban Chicken movement and, frankly, sound more like an HOA process (sqwauky neighbors can nix your birds).

I'm back in NV for a little bit and then heading back up the S.F. Bay Area to continue working on Mom's estate. Light at the end of the tunnel, though, and thinking about (and looking on the internet at) more chicken-friendly relocation sites. I love the internet for this....a dumpy kitchen and flat ceilings can totally curtail my looking further. Saves a lot of my time and broker's time. Relocation will NOT be to Michigan!

Aubrey: Craig's List the silkies. You'll have a call in no time flat as black-skinned chickens are an Asian delicacy.

Sunny: Congrats on the news!

Great bunny, duck and chicken photos.... Still feels like Easter!

On Friday, Tyler gave us a rabbit that he needed to butcher, but didn't have time. She's a silver marten, and she's gorgeous. We took her home, and my husband instantly fell in love with her coloring. So I asked Tyler, "So why, exactly, does this doe need to be butchered?" He said, "She's cage aggressive. She can get mean." That was good enough for me. But my husband really wants to breed her to my blue buck and see what we get. By this morning, she had just behaved like a normal rabbit. So my husband put her with my blue buck, and they did their thing. Then we went to paint my new office, and my son called me to tell me that the rabbit attacked my daughter when she tried to give it water. The doe didn't just bite her hand... she jumped halfway up my daughter's arm and drew blood. Mommy instincts kick in, and my son is saying, "I think we need to kill her now." So I turned to my husband and said, "She's only a couple of hours pregnant." But he still wants to keep her and see if she throws some pretty babies first. That means we'll have to completely switch rabbits around so she's in the cage where all feeding/watering is done on the outside, and wear gloves and long sleeves to reach into the cage. I want pretty babies, too, and maybe keep one of her litter if they turn out nice. But I have a rule of "no meanies" over here.

Ok guys, looking for a breeding coop and run. My husband is way to busy in the summer to build for me. I REALLY had to work for my layers coop! Anyway... We get min 5 -6 feet of snow so I need a slanted roof, and sturdy. I went on Craigslist and there were a few that would not work for me. ( a possible one in Fallon) if anyone here builds coops or knows of one for sale could you let me know...
We live in south lake and will pay a bit extra for delivery or can pick up if.

Several people told me about one for sale at Costco. I haven't seen it myself yet but from the descriptions others have given me it sounds like it might just suit your purposes. It's smallish, but if you're just going to use it for a breeding coop that shouldn't be a problem.

I can't Craigslist them because I cannot risk them being kept and not eaten. My flock got sick last year so these need to be culled
Besides you'd have to deal with the creepy Craigslist rooster people!

Honestly I got an 8x11 Rubbermaid shed on CL for 400 bucks and its pretty awesome. Try searching for sheds they're much cheaper than anything that says "coop" on it!
