Nevadans?

My hen house is open to the pen 24/7/365. They even go out after a snow but they don't like to walk on it so they just stay close to the hen house. If it's a weekend I'll go clear a path thru the snow for them so they can get to the perches that are at the other end of the pen. My mother told me, that when she lived in Salt Lake City back in the 1950s, she had no trouble with the chickens but the turkeys you had to make get out of the rain or they would drown. So far I've not lost any birds to snow or other weather related events.

Thanks Humbrd, We placed the coop in the run yesterday and the two put themselves to bed last night. with the run completely secure I was thinking of just leaving the door open to the coop but decided not to. I think I will start doing that though then they can come and go as they please. The Rooster loves to crow but you cannot hardly hear him from across the yard.

Humbrd, My "Coop" is only 2 ft X2ft X4ft. you have to lift up the roof to get in it. It only houses 2 Seramas for now. Itty Bitty thing so the door I am talking about is 8 inches wide and 10 inches tall.

HorseFeatherz, that is SO tragic. I am so sorry for your loss. It's a horrid reminder to be vigilent...that predators come from all directions.

R.I.P. little hen.... Enjoy all that well-deserved corn in the sky for a job well done to the very end.

Sending you a big cyber hug and soft shoulder...

Thanks all, sadly no show on the little chick

Careful if you are out and about today - winds up here are roaring - 100 mph plus and our power is hit n miss. Have decided I am not running into Reno today, will spend the stormy day safe inside. Not even the birds want to be out in the weather.
