It doesn't look like it. There are some "over the hill" in CA, though.

You are more than welcome. Your girls are beautiful. Bertha (that is what we ended up naming her) is having a bit of a time adjusting. She has a lot of room to move around but she is definitely on the bottom of the chicken totem pole right now. Although the funny thing is she was the first one in the new chicken coop last night so she got the optimum spot on the roosts first and because she is so big the others could not budge her. It was pretty funny to watch.

My Dad brought the dishes by yesterday and put them in the back of my truck so I will swing them by along with the crate. When I got lost the other night I found this wonderful little Food Co-Op that reminded me of the one we used to go to when I was a kid. I am definitely going back in there so taking the dishes and crate to you gives me the perfect excuse. I just have to wait until my DH is home because there is no way I am taking my little bundles of joy in such a small store.

Yes! The great basin co-op, mark and I shop there all the time. They have really good stuff, and alot of times they give away the produce for really cheap or even free if it's going bad, so I usually take it and feed it to the girls

That would explain the avatar.

Aubrey, I'll keep an eye out for you. You can't be easy to miss with such a unique look!

Eglyntine, I have a BO named Bertha too.

She is my dominant hen and rules the flock better than any dominant hen I've ever had. She even has the roos running for cover if she's mad! She is pretty mellow though when things are going well and it's unusual to have a dominant that rules with such balance.

I have missed the group!I wish I could join you all at the show! I can tell you that pics of me and the family are on my face book page. http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=124839527575432&id=1629594372#!/profile.php?id=1629594372
For
the news: my cohort in crime and I have the meaties,...well yesterday the kid I spent the day in Vegas. We got home to the smell of smoke.
No fire detectors going off. Went to check on the chicks and the heat lamp had fallen in the box. All chick ok but the lamp had burned the shavings, Rubbermaid, carpet and the foam pad. The OSB floor is ok. I am going to build an outdoor brooder! Shanya has hers out side...I need to get in gear! Sunny that is the guest room... I have it fixed soon.

Just to let every one know I am looking for a nice Cooper Blue Marrans Roo.

I had a scare of a lifetime last night myself although it turned out fine. I did build a brooder section in my coop so that I did not have to have the babies inside my house anymore. We put these new ceramic lamps out there on one side of the brooder for testing to see how warm/cold it got through the night. Well I went to check the temp guage (it is remote so I do not have to keep running out to the coop all night) and it said it was 115 degrees out there. At first I was like wow that is REALLY hot and then the next thing that popped in my head was that is WAY too hot the babies brains are fried and for it to be that hot something has to be on fire.

So I went running out to the Coop with my DH and opened the brooder door expecting the worst to find it perfectly fine. The boys had hit the reset button on the monitor and when you do that it displays the max temperature it has ever hit before. Sometimes I do not know if technology is worth the heart attacks. *LOL*

Doing the outside brooder though was a Godsend and I would highly recommend it.

Sunny: This BO is definitely an independent lady. I think that once she settles in there is a very good possibility she is going to be Queen Hen.

So glad everyone is ok! It's a good thing you got home when you did.

Eglyntine, glad to hear your Bertha is adjusting so well!

I don't really think she's head hen materiel. She's got no guts! She was way bigger than my other girls but was picked on by all of them, even the delaware who I got at the same tme as her. The del was spunky and confident from the second I brought her home but the orp was always a shy little thng. I guess I mostly felt bad for her because my coop is so small and the other girls would peck her in the head while she was trying to sleep...

She's doing way better over here with my girls, the only ones that are really picking on her are my Black Stars but they always bully anyone new that comes along. By yesterday afternoon though she was standing up to them. At least holding her ground and not running away. She gets along with my Mastiffs really well. She was actually following them around the yard most of the day. It was pretty cute. I wish I had a picture, it was like she had these two HUGE bodyguards following her around. *LOL*

Chickens change attitude depending on what situation they are in all of the time. Although I agree e are some that will never change. Which is why I have so many rooster dumplings in my belly. hehe
