Nevadans?

My polish go to bed on their own. It's funny, all my chickens see me coming and start heading for their coop. The one's that haven't gone to bed yet will surely go when they hear the squeak of the stall doors! Little creatures of habit.

I heard ducks stay up all night and party but my ducks go into the run when all of the chickens start lining up to go into the coop. My drake goes into the coop to make sure everyone is up on the roosts and once they are then he comes back down into the run and the ducks lay down and sleep for the night.

Sheryl, do your ducks lay in the nesting boxes the chickens use? Also, I was wondering if you would consider breeding with hatchery ducks. I saw some in the McMurray catalog, and I knew you'd rather not, but there seems to be a shortage of WH drakes.

Good to know!

Sheryl I saw Welsh Harlequins in the Stromberg's catalog also. They are known for their quality fowl but this is the first time I've ordered from them so I can't speak from experience.

Ok, let me go find the quotes again...

I found a second egg tonight when I went to close up the coop. It was a rubbery shell egg, though. I guess that happens occasionally with young layers. I'm hoping for some more good eggs this week. I left the chicken coop open to the run all day today. No one wanted to come out first thing in the morning but later about half of them ventured out.

good luck on your hatch, Sheryl!

Well my move may be going in a direction I didn't want to go. Putting a bid on a house u North near the Oregon border. BUUUUUURRRRRR! Looks like there or towards Vegas. How's that for drastic differences? I like this house. Needs work. There's a barn, an acre, garage with a storage loft and the house is good sized. Thing is I don't really know anyone outside the Bay Area and up there it is going to be even more lonely, but it would at least be MINE! I don't know what I want to do. I think I'll be taking a road trip with a couple of my daughters and my SIL.
Hope you find a good place to live. that's quite a move up there, though. I agree that you should move to Reno!

Kim, it's not like it's particularly warm here... or that the economy's that great... but people are desperate to sell their houses. And if you moved here, you'd have at least a dozen people waiting to help you carry stuff into your house.

I'm still giggling from yesterday. While sitting at church, I opened up a notebook to show Russ the names I've collected for this year's future chickens. You know, all following the same theme we apply to our chicken names. Then my husband said, "Well, the minorca and the turken are mine, so I'm going to name them Strip and Finger." I was trying so hard not to laugh during church. It's bad enough this chicken is going to be butt-ugly from hatch. Now she's going to be named Finger.

those poor chickens!

I keep trying to talk Kim into moving here. However if you like the casinos it might not be the best choice.

OK, I did it! After much back and forth (I have so many chickens coming already) I have finally decided to order 25 of the white crested black polish from Strombergs. I'm hoping a different hatchery will result in a few pullets at least. Steve wants this color so bad, even though we have other varieties coming from Pam in the not too distant future, he really wants these adorable polish. I think we are officially headed to the loony bin with all these breeds coming! Oh well. If you're going to go off the deep end this is a great way to do it.

I think you should get quite a few pullets from an order of 25.

I think I'm going blind. Sunny since about 10 minutes after you posted that link I've been looking at houses. Started in Reno and then I thought "hmmm......VEGAS! O! M! G! Do you know how much house you can get for so little money there? Only problem is I started from the cheapest price and then changed to 3+bd 2+ba houses and opened every single add and looked at every single pic I could get to open. Then I checked comps and areas and history. I'm only up to the 42k houses so far. Man, lots of cheap houses. Still haven't gotten to any with enough room for my animals yet, but there's always tomorrow. Oh I did take a break during "The Voice", but I searched during commercials. If I could only find things near here that were that cheap. Well I guess I have. Like I said I hadn't gotten to anyting with land yet.

I've often heard of Nevada as a land of desperation. I guess right now that refers to jobs and the housing market.

Hello everyone!

I know I'm a bit out of the blue here, but after long
hmm.png
disappointing searches I ended up here... Sooooo....
It is my mom's birthday today, and I'd like to get her some chickens as a present. My mom grew up in a village and has raised many farm animals including chickens, and she's been talking about getting some chickens to keep in the backyard here in Vegas, they even have this perfect area where they want to set up a little coop to lay eggs and all.
I presume you (or some of you) have either fertilized eggs

or some chickens I could buy?
If you could, pretty please let me know, and if it can't happen today... no problem. A late present will still be better than nothing

P.S. I don't mind taking an hour drive, but if there are any here in Las Vegas, it would be oh so lovely!
P.P.S. Duck or quail would also work.
