They dove right under her. I considered waiting until dark, but figured they'd do better with a mom if she accepted them right away, so I gave it a shot. They got taken directly away from one mom, rode in a box for a half hour, and got another mom.
My chicken dog wanted to be the mom... just like she does with every new baby we bring in. Even before I opened the box... before they even peeped... she was waiting for me to open it. I take each baby and introduce it to her, and she licks the face and the butt. Then she has to watch me put it in its new home, and checks up on it. I have to tell her a few times that they're not her babies, and she's always been great about that. But if the babies start to cry, she's right there. She could probably even take care of them, if a chick could endure constant butt licking.
