New addition on our 11 month old unfinshed coop

No reason to change egg collection because of fertile eggs.....well, that is if you collect daily and store at less than 90 degrees.

we collect daily and store on the counter. I was under the impression that we would need to store fertile eggs in the fridge to keep any development from happing.

I had a bad experience back when I was 17. we would get free eggs from the neighbors. One morning still hung over a made scrambled eggs but had a partially developed chick in that mess and puke my brains out.

Anyways at what age does a rooster start trying to get it on with the hens?

The temperature needed to start and support development of a fertilized egg is above that found in most households - unless your ambient temperatures reach and remain at or above 90 in the home you will not have any unhappy surprises. That being said, meat spots, blood spots, etc do often appear in eggs and are often confused with developing embryos -- as these are actually pieces of a hen's tissue that get swept up into the egg as it forms it matters not whether the egg is fertile or what temperature it is stored at, they will still be very visible in the egg at the time of use. These are more common in non-commercial eggs as the eggs at a commercial producer pass through all sorts of sorting equipment that detects such "faults" and removes those eggs for other uses rather than packaging them up for sale.
Storing hatching eggs is actually best done above the temperature of the average refrigerator, though below that of most homes.

Quote: You should be fine with that, it's what I do and haven't had an embryo come out of a cooking egg.

That can happen when folks don't collect all the eggs every day,
often with free rangers where nests can be all over the place.
Lax management.

Cockerels can fertilize as early as 4-5 months.

Thanks aart. I was digging threw some old threads on roosters. What you said has me a little more relaxed now.

Thank You.

Ok so I got some pictures of the moveable divider wall for the coop. I built the wall to so that I could move it out of a traditional door height. @78". So the top screws in place and can be unscrewed to move out of the building if needed later.

So here is the basic wall parts...................................

And one with the what will be chicken wire frames in the wall they are cut to 2 and 3/4" wide The little pieces will cover the wire are in the pic piled in the right corner. these finish off the frames that the wire attach to..........................

I started painting these today so if temps hold out it should be done in the next couple days and I will update these pictures with a finished product.
Samantha got the second coat of colors on the walls in the coop so that leaves the blackjack on the floors. The build checklist is getting shorter on the inside of the coop.Yay

Whoaa!!! That is one fancy temporary wall!!
Can't wait to see it put in place.
Lets say this wall was a combination of ideas I'm throwing around for the run. I from the start had planned to do the run in these frames that would screw between another frame mounted to the post. The door is something I saw on another run online and I want to see how it holds it's squareness.

Its been cold here so paints taking a while to dry. Tomorrow looks better and temps should be in 70's by the weekend. So we will be applying the blackjack 57 tomorrow. I worked on cleaning all the tools out, finishing paint on the temp wall and hanging screens and shutters on the coop.

Here the shutters so far
Closed..............................

And open..................................
