New Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Flock

Oh and Colby yes the heat has been horrible. We have had 15 days of 100+ heat here in Virginia where I am at this year alone. Also it has been very dry!

So blue over blue doesn't breed true?what color do you get with blue to blue?what do you need to breed to get blue?i have a rooster and two hen that are blrw that i got from a breeder here in iowa and would like to breed more.

Thanx for reviving this thread - I had bookmarked it back in May. It is such a wealth of information!! I decided to give it a try with my Bantam Cochins, as I have an excellent pair of Golden Laced. I bred my GL roo to my best Splash hen this past spring, and my F1's are just over 2 months old now. When of age, the best females will go back with the GL roo, and we'll just see how it goes from there. I wasn't expecting to see any lacing until we get to the F2s or F3s, but wasn't expecting the F1s to be as dark as they are - almost black. But at 2 months, they are showing excellent type, so I'm VERY pleased with that.

Hope you all don't mind if I tag along with the Wyandottes for a while - just can't find any BLR Cochin folks to talk to - yet!!

Wish me luck!

This is a great topic. I don't have any BLRW yet, but I hope to get some from some BYC members soon. I am reading everything I can about them. I think I want to achieve the pigeon blue like the ones that Katy has. Although I like them all, this is by far MY favorite. Kudos to turbo for the insight on the correct type. That was some very good reading. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if he wrote a little more about them.

Hi Brandon,
I've talked to you about getting a couple of breeds from you one was some BLR to go with the 4 roos I hatched. I after 6 months picked my roo. Was very hard ,but I like you wanted splash and blues. I just wanted to see what you think of my roo. I have a pick of some pullets I'm growing out. It's not the best pic my darker ones washed out in pic. *****Edit~ roo is only 7 months old now*****

Sorry about the Marans and Leghorns this is the chick coop. If I don't get 1 good dark girl I might be bugging you next spring.
Hope you don't mind.

so Beautiful! I have Bantam Cochins but enjoy seeing BLRWs. It feels like going to a museum - "not all the paintings are equally good but all of them look good on the walls"

Give me another year - my F1s (Bantam Cochin BLR) are only 2-1/2 months old now.
