New Hampshire!

It's so tough when you get too many roosters. They are so beautiful, but you can't have more than a max of two or you get serious flock dominance issues. I have more roosters than I can handle myself, and I don't know of anyone that might want any right now either right now. You might want to try a facebook group like:

Join the groups (they are also great forums for advice on chicken keeping!) and you can post that you are looking to give away the roosters (especially at this time of year, you don't want to ask anything for the roos - no one will be willing to pay to rehome a roo). If that fails, there is always craigslist - but keep in mind that most people who take them on craigslist may not be taking them for flock or pets

Thank you so much! I thought about Craig's list but I was worried about just what you said. We weren't planning on charging for them. I'll look into. Those pages and post a sign at our local feed and grain. I hope we can find them new homes before all beck breaks out!
Thanks again!

the problem is the hen to rooster ratio

if i hatch out 100 chicks half will be boys

if i give away 1 boy for every 10 i sell

there are still 45 left over

what can be done with them?

i may be looking for a red rooster for my sex-linked project

i could take the others

but please don't ask what their vocation will be

i find homes for as many as i can but .........

It would be great if you can take one. I'd like to try to find hones for the others before having to do the other. We're in a pretty rural area so we might get lucky. Where are you?

If anyone is looking for some young turkeys I have 3 extras Im looking to rehome. They are roughly 4 month old Bourbon Reds, 1hen 2toms. My flocks are all up to date with NH NPIP certification.

PM me if there are questions or interest.

Piglet, were these some of those free roosters that you sold to me a silkie girls! And then later said you didn't know I wanted A-1 Silkie girls! These were all roosters!

Alright piglet, I have to let this go. I'm sorry but I do want people to be aware. You need to trust your seller, my husband did the p/u and he is NOT into silkies but knew they had puffy heads and you daid it would come. I'm home with ms and I never know how I will feel til I wake up. So it's all my fault, if only I could of been there! But this is the last time I will bring it up to other BYC lovers.

i had a handful of silkies (1 boy 2 girls)

i figured i would incubate a few of their eggs to see what i ended up with

i had a couple dozen hatch out

i saw no signs of yours not being girls (streamers on the head & such)

when they are young you can only make guesses

so that is what i did

if you can sex a young silkie then you should be a millionaire

& i sold them at bargain basement prices because it was the end of the season (didn't want to feed them all winter)

plus i drove 45 min. north to meet you part way!

so at this point i'll say "i'm sorry things didn't would out as planned"

this is why they came up with sex linked hens

so you know 100% for sure the sex of the birds rite at hatch
