New Hampshire!

I just finished my new coop last November. I moved all the hens and their chicks (juvinals) of both sex's into the new coop. I left the 5 adult roosters in the old coop which I call the batchelor coop. Roos only. As soon as I move the 5 juvinal roos out this coming week the new coop will become hens only. I have a small 2 story 2 coop broody coop so If I want more chicks I can put a trio of 2 hens and 1 roo in and then collect the eggs. My roos are lovely to look at and I don't want to eat them as they are bantams whih no meat on them aside from the fact that all my chickens are pets.

Yevisk. Too bad you just missed the huge farmers market in Rollinsford this weekend. They had over 19 farms there giving info on their CSA's. There are tons of them in the state, if you look onto the Local Harvest website or NH Eat Local they have lists I believe.
Angie
Thanks, Angie!

I am located in Sandown - next door to Chester and Hampstead, close to Derry, Plaistow, Danville, Salem, etc. We have 3 acres in the middle of a small cul-de-sac type neighborhood (used to be a cul-de-sac til they connected it up to a new group of houses a few years ago) and we've lived here 19 years now. Right now we have 29 chickens (28 hens and 1 rooster, although I'm working on finding a free rooster nearby for fertilization purposes), 3 dairy goats (1 milking, 2 doelings), 4 housecats & 2 barn cats, and 4 dogs (3 Border collies and one elderly Aussie). I grew up on a farm in Pembroke, NH. Besides the animals, I knit, spin, and quilt. I know how to weave, but don't have any looms right now. I'm working on becoming a better gardener - one of these years, I'll win out over the weeds!

I do enjoy self-sufficiency projects. My husband of 18 years made me a wonderful clothesline, I enjoy baking bread, making jam, canning food, etc. Right now I'm working on boiling down sap from our own maple trees (a whole 10 taps, but right now we're down to 6), and I've already made 6 pints of syrup, with more to go!

Are you focusing on a certain breed?
Thank you!

I tried focusing on one (Partridge Chanteclers) but found I don't care for them as the sole breed here. I found them very slow to mature - in some cases, you can't tell the pullets from the cockerels until someone starts to lay or crow! Besides that, there are so many pretty chicken breeds out there, and so many awesome egg colors! Right now I have a bunch of eggs in 2 incubators - I have an old Turn-X, and a Little Giant styrofoam. I just added a fan kit to the LG, and will be putting in an egg turner when it arrives (supposed to be here tomorrow). We'll see what kind of job my rooster is doing. The 11 eggs in the Turn-X will be candled tomorrow.
