Agreed - thats my concern. Also, this ordinance will prevent me from being able to raise the breeds I have now. It is a proposed ordinance, I have read it it is unclear. Also, my previously existing pens will now be illegal if the ord passes - so I have to tear down all those or be cited?

Where is the meeting? We were planning on showing as a whole family - would bringing my mean and aggressive silkies matter? IF they want to keep the cock fighters out of the area, I see absolutely NO REASON why LEGITIMATE raisers shouldn't have to file or register their birds like we do our dogs.
I know that will ruffle feathers, but if the good intentions of the legitimate owners are going to the point where we are willing to let the county know what we have and why, then maybe that will pressure them to go after those who don't.
I do not think we should have to register our dogs or any animal, but am willing to concede that this may help get the cock fighters out of here and allow us common and decent folk keep our animals.

The 50 ft rule is essentially a ban on BYC for most people. This is currently the rule in the city of San Diego so the city says sure, chickens are legal but how many urban lots are large enough to meet the 50 ft. rule? Most people are not in the income bracket required to purchase acreage in San Diego county.
The hidden intentions of this rule go way beyond stopping cockfighting and there are already laws against cockfighting. Under Federal law, cockfighting is a felony, even here in supposedly lax California. The big time operators should be covered by federal laws and yes, law enforcement is expensive but this new ordinance will not change that. What is harder to stop is the small timers who purchase a few unwanted roosters at the feed store for a little backyard entertainment. These roosters probably don't last long enough to be covered by this new ordinance. The result will probably be an even greater supply of unwanted roosters at the feed stores for the smalltime fighters.

Shoot, I measured and my coop is 44 feet away from the corner of my house...and I'm on a .49 acre lot. I didn't think if its too close to my nieghbor's house. My guess is it looks exactly 50 feet from my nieghbor's house
The only place that would be 50 feet from anyone's home would be on the far corner of my lot, which has 3 ROADS FULL OF CARS DRIVING BY AT ALL HOURS! GROSS! I don't need them breathing in those fumes...
