New style of pvc feeder, has anyone tried it?

I built this feeder but made some changes - cost and what was available. Could not find 4" pvc post cap that constitues the feeder tray so I used some old guttering. Just screwed the pvc waste pipe fitting to the guttering. I made feed drop double sided. Couldn't find the cap either so I used a cottage cheese carton and set in into the top. It all works very well except I made the space that the feeds falls into to large ( the piece of guttering ) so the girls flip some food out as they peck. So I put one of the large lids that covers the big tubs of cattle lick and feed under it. Problem solved. If you can find them these lids are great for a # of things including a dusting "box". Any cattle farmer will give them to you - once they open the tub they rarely need them again. There was an article printed in Backyard Poultry - Vol. 7 Oct / Nov. 2012 www.backyardpoultrymag.com on how to build this feeder. For all you D.I.Y. 's ( I guess it is ok to say this - if not let me know please ) there is a screw called SPAX . It is the most fab little screw in the world. I drilled it straignt into some cedar that was very old and dry. No splits, no cracks. H. D. is the only store I know of that carries them. Come in all sizes.

I have one similar from an Australian company www.dineachook.com.au and they are fantastic. It is a slightly different design and the food stays dry and in the container. The chooks had no problems eating from it and took to it straight away. The water feeder is also great, I bought the two together. They have been up in my coop for about four months now. Have a look at the website, they may ship overseas.

I have two of these and the waterer. I don't like the waterer at all. The thingy clogs too much. The feeders are fabulous but the shipping from Australia was really expensive.

I tried to make some of these feeders but the original is the best and its the only one the hens will use.
