new years black eye peas

I like to take the can black eyed peas and make salsa...it is really good

New years day without black eyes is like christmas without santa.

I have tried to keep up the pea tradition since I moved to Western New York, but my friends and co-workers just don't get it- even though they love the corn bread side. I had to come home to Arkansas to share this year's peas with my family.

I slow cooked ours all day yesterday..........yummy, yummy!

I am visiting my family in Oregon.........so not necessarily their tradition, but it has been mine for the last 30 years. It was a nice and wonderful way to start the New Year.

Every New years day we have blackeyed peas, collards and cornbread. We put our peas over the cornbread and a side of collards with homemade pepper vinegar. Yum, I'm having leftovers for lunch, all except for the cornbread (they ate it all

) My husband is from outside of Philly so we also burn a bay berry candle throughout the night on New years eve for luck. I'm willing to do pretty much anything if it will improve my luck for the year

We did eat some with cornbread and BBQ pork chops. We had a bag of them that we've had for years, so decided to cook them. I know people do it because of tradition, but I dont hold to any superstitions at all; in fact, I'm anti-superstition. However, I'm not opposed to some good peas or beans cooked with country ham for seasoning!

I dont eat them for superstition either to get rich or anything....I dont believe in superstitions...but I cook them for tradition....I like to eat them anyway.....I forgot to cook my turnip greens....I thought something was missing....I guess with the grandbaby and thrush and all I was stressed
