Newbie City Duck Owner!! Need advice!

Disney Gal,

I'm a newbie too & have had my 2 babies about 5 wks now. I find them so entertaining & loveable!! I'm still learning so much &, like you, spent hours researching & reading articles. I got more than a little confused, however, because some said to do this & others said to do that, lol. The people on this site are awesome & so helpful. They don't make you feel silly no matter how simple the question. Keep exploring this site - it is full of tips from those who have "been there, done that."

Just be prepared for the poop! I had no idea ducks pooped as much as they do, lol!!! It is probably just as well I didn't know when they were given to me.

Hope to see pics of your featherbabes soon!

Thanks for the input and tips!!! Ya I am gearing up to deal with the poo.... We have a dog and two cats and they poo A LOT!

Mine are here =) They came a day early... now just to sell 4 of them =)
pictures!!!!

Definitely get your neighbors on board.I live in the city too, with three 2 year old ducks and 2 recently hatched ducklings. Explain to them that like any new animal it'll take time for routines to fall into place, and bribe with future eggs! My neighbors love my duck eggs.

Routines are really important for ducks. Especially the night and morning ones. The biggest complaint your neighbors might have is noise too early or too late. Right now I'm teaching the little ones the ropes....
I swear the big ones listen, they were just being cheeky

Thanks for the fantastic advice Melissa! I just informed our neighbors yesterday one implied he couldn't care less about us having them... The other said cool I know someone that has some! I may look to you for future advice if your willing since you have them in the city.

Melissa your videos might be the cutest ones I've ever seen!! Your little guys are so stinking cute!!!

Melissa,

Really enjoyed the videos!! Plus you give good advice. Us newbies need all the advice we can get.

Thanks! I'm still new to ducks and learning as I go. This place is awesome and has helped me with lots of questions. There are many different types of duck owners on here, some raise as livestock and others as pets, but everyone contributes their knowledge and experiences (even if its just cute videos and pictures every so often).

I didn't plan on keeping them all together, but we have one lamp and the divider wasn't working so here they are.
