No. Calif. Chickenstock June 5, Kelseyville! memories and pics, p. 42+

Hi Sunny,
The chicks are doing well. They are getting along like three boisterous teenagers. Still not sure of genders of the two blacks. Time will tell. They are mostly kept separated from the flock for now, but I do let them all free range together on occasion. I'll integrate everyone later when they are bigger.

They'll get it eventually I'm sure. I have one pullet that is almost 4 months old that is still sleeping on the droppings board! She hasn't been creamed yet but I know she's gonna get it one of these days! Oh well, maybe she'll learn to climb on the roost then.

I didn't realize school just got out there. I'll try to be patient a little longer for pics then.

Whattheflock, where are the pics? I have a few black pullets that are obvious now (so I can trade you if both blacks end up being roos) and 2 definite cockerals but one is still throwing me with a comb that is right in the middle of the other's and refuses to get red but is definitely large compared to the pullets.

One of my pullets is clean faced though! I was hoping that one would be a roo. Oh well, I'll keep her for eggs but I won't breed her. When I got back from the chicken stock one of my silver "gals" had filled out completely with cockerel colors, I was only gone for 3 days! So now I only have 1 silver pullet.

I just got back from checking on the youngsters tonight. They are still on the roost, and it's been over 3 hours since I put them there. Yay!

Maybe tomorrow they will go in the coop on their own.

(and good morning!)

Of course, if they don't go in the coop and roost on their own tonight, my dad will have to come to my house to take care of the chickens twice a day while I'm gone. I have a roommate, but I don't think he'd remember.

I'm gonna root for the chickies!

Good luck! I still have 2 little ones (out of 15) that won't go in by themselves yet either.

I think they are spoiled though, 'cause when I come out, they come right to me for a "boost" into the coop.

Have a great trip!

Hubby and I just moved to Sacramento, and unfortunately the Chicks and goose and quail all had to find new homes, but at least they all went to a friend of mine, so I can see pics as they grow. We just started a new and better job, so life is crazy right now, but wonderful at the same time. Now our salary is doubled, our house is doubled, and we have full benefits! So life is good, just very very busy right now.
