I don’t know where else to inform staff, but I just received an unsolicited password reset request for my account via email, and would like to report it, even though it states I can safely ignore it. Could be an honest mistake or glitch, I’m sure. I disregarded the request. I consider the issue resolved, but wanted to let you know it occurred. Thanks!

With XF1, password reset requests can be sent to users with just a username, it doesn't require an email address to be entered to send the request, and sometimes spammers or trolls will send out the requests to members, and we can't trace who sends the reset request. It has been changed to require an email address in version 2 of the software, but we're still on version 1. Like the email said, it's safe to ignore it.

I haven't received that specific email, however, I've been getting numerous emails stating my Google account and my Facebook page have been hacked. Didn't happen for real, just phishing. I had forgotten I signed up with Facebook years ago but never used it. When I went into my page it was a little creepy. There were around 200 people wanting to friend me. None of them remotely familiar. That's just weird. I'll stick with my chicken people. Kris, don't click on any of those links just them.

I think those were unrelated to BYC.

I agree. The point I was trying to make that these cyber thugs will use any means to trick us. I forgot to mention that a few weeks ago I received a BYC Newsletter in my spam inbox. I opened it and it looked suspicious, so I deleted it. I thought about reporting it, but again I figured it was an attempt by some cyber thug trying to get me to click on the link (to destruction). I've not seen any mention of a newsletter on this site, so there you go.

There is no security threat coming from these unsolicited password reset emails, they are just annoying. Even if you were to click the link in the email to reset your password, you would have to enter a new password and confirm it, and nobody else would have access to that password. Nobody can gain access to your account through these reset emails since they still go to your email. They are just a bit irritating.

Oh thank goodness. This makes feel immensely better. I don't post on my Facebook page, I'm just not comfortable with that especially because of the recent hacks. I like the BYC site because we all have something in common. I'm glad the newsletter is legitimate. Thank you for giving me that peace of mind. :)
