Nora's First Egg!! Calling Seminole Wind Esp., Check it Out!

Nice looking eggs Cyn.

I have someone laying a dark egg that looks like your welsummer's but I do not have any of those or any marans either...Any ideas what other breed would lay an egg like that? Far right fourth egg from top and it has little specks on it.

One of my Wellie girls, Justine, lays a dark brown, speckled egg, but my head hen Ruby, who was a hatchery RIR (may she rest in peace) laid a quite dark brown egg with speckles, too. The other Welsummer pullet lays an extremely dark egg, what you'd really expect from a Welsummer. I have gotten a very dark egg like yours from one of my hatchery New Hampshire girls, Lucy. Penny, her sister, lays one that is lighter than that. No speckles on either of them. One of my older BR girls, Lexie, usually lays a very dark brown egg, sort of like Ruby did, though none of the other BRs lay one that dark. You have a NH, dont you?

Rooster-red, glad you've joined the club! How are Iris, Hazel and Scarlett doing?

Scarlett is just finishing her moult, she has beautiful dark green tips on her feathers.
Hazel is the same cute little devil as always, just hasn't finished moult yet.

Iris did a quick moult, just as beautiful as ever, still brooding these chick, but the chicks are almost the same size as her!
The roo I posted above is one of those chicks.

I sure do...Maggie. But her egg is the one just below the dark one on the right. it is a good light-medium brown and large.

I have the following laying on the big girls' side...

1 EE
1 SLW
1 NHR
7 BAs

so, I really have no idea who is laying it...the EE is of course green and the SLW lays a large pinkish brown egg (just above the dark one). I am wondering if these are coming from my younger group which have Meyer Hybrids, Golden Buffs, in there. Maybe daughter is putting the eggs in the main nest when she heads out to school and it is actually from the little girls side. She checks them every morning on her way to the bus stop, even before I check them. I have no idea.

Lee, thanks for the report on those sweet girls! I'm so glad you still have them and they're doing well. My three RIRs who are probably related to Scarlett are very statuesque, just like she is, so beautiful and LARGE, almost as large as my Black Orp pullet, Delilah, Suede's daughter. In fact, in dim light, I've confused them with DeDe, they're so dark.

Cetawin, I'd say it has to be the NH or the BA laying that dark one. Can't see the others laying one near that dark.
