Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

So basically, it leads to resistant pathogens in humans that COULD kill them. Heh. How real is this threat? Or is it just the FDA being hokey?
Baytril was used in the poultry industry for *many* years before the ban. It's a personal choice each one has to make... I choose to use the drug, but wait 28 days before eating the eggs.

Would the bacteria is causes a resistance to be an issue if you don't plan on eating the meat? Or is it a danger with eggs too?
Hmmm, Cooking kills everything. If the concern is the "potential to create resistant bacteria" that would be resistance to the medication. If the concern is humans eating meat that has an antibiotic in its system and creating a problem for humans. There should be a withdrawl before harvest...

My theory, if you took antibiotics in March for Strep throat, those antiobiotics are long gone from your entire system. Same with chickens. I'll have to look into this further, but it seems logical, knowing that antibiotics are not anything that would just remain in your system, otherwise you would be given a dose at birth and never need them again.

Note about chicken meat withdrawal:

I cannot find any data for eggs though.

anything in your mental files about how much antibiotic is actually found in eggs in a lovely peer reviewed research study? This is just for curiosity... My feeling on anitb's is of course for an illness, but not continual as to factory birds for their survival (big difference, yet another thread...)

FDA hokey? What? C'mon if you can't trust the government to have your best interests at heart, who can you trust?

Like "free range" "organic" labeling, creates the illusion of humane raising. Still peeved I was deluded.

, lol. Very true. Not much that they do is for "the better of the people"

Makes sense. Just like the dewormers, doesn't stay in the body, in three weeks it's long gone.... Not that I ever wait those three weeks...
How sick is the flock?

-Kathy
Basic swelling in the face. No other symptoms. Still acting normal, no sneezing, coughing; etc.
