Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Yep. My Iowa Blue "hen" is beginning to crow. At least I think it's crowing. Neither of the other two are making the noises I'm hearing. Can they really crow at this early age? He's not quite 10 weeks old. I need to get him to a farm ASAP. My neighbors are nice, but not that nice!

Top one looks like my favorelle female. The nice thing about favorelles is that the boys have different coloring at an early age. We got ours at 4 weeks and by then it is clear which are the roos. The coloring is distinct.

I've had cockerels crow as early as 5 weeks old, and others that didn't start until after 20 weeks.

Would love some help identifying the gender of a few of our 3 month old chicks! Two Amercaunas and the large Barred Rock. Thanks in advance!

The pictures I posted above of the white crested blue polish were both of the same bird that my friend had concerns about. The pictures I posted after in a different frame were of my roosters of the same breed at the same age. In both cases 15 weeks. --I tried to clarify that but have just now realized you need to use the "quote" button to connect a comment to a specific frame in the thread. I'm assuming you were referring to pictures in the first post, which are of the same bird. The second post were two different cockerels that I had identified as such (and that were obvious at that point).

Compare the coloring and the feathering of the known cockerels to the one you aren't sure about. Notice any differences? Do you see how patchy the boys' coloring is? Do see how even and uniform the one that's in question is? The gender of your friend's bird is obvious.

I just learned how to use the quote button to connect to this thread specifically. I meant 15 weeks (couldn't figure out how to correct this in the original posting). Thank you junebuggena for your reply to a later post where I clarify the age. Just wanted to connect this correction to the right posting for any other polish owners who might be looking through the thread wondering about similarly aged polish chickens.
