She didn't buy black sexlinks from a hatchery. She bought chicks from a breeder who had several kinds and she paid extra to get all pullets. 5 males so far of 19 is nowhere near the accuracy rates you'd get from a hatchery. It only takes failure to separate breeds for long enough prior to collecting hatching eggs or a fence hopping rooster to get accidental BSL cockerels from your barred Rock hens. They'll look just like barred Rock pullets right up until the male signs show up.[/quote]Yes I caught and understood that...Was just saying if did end up with all that were the same breed of the 19 she bought. You may be able to get a clue that way. Like if maybe they advertised them as barred rocks but they were actually sex links since we were possibly questioning there practices. Sorry for the interruption. Was only trying to help. From the other pics she posted the rest look like barred rocks. Hadn't seen those before I submitted other post.

Thanks for the help with the others, here are 2 more.
Both about 8 weeks bantams and I believe both pullets. Barred rock and buff cochin. I heard cochins are slow to mature so I'm not sure if it's too soon. Any help is appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to BYC but have been reading posts here for info since getting my first chickens 2 years ago.
Recently I bought 4 day old chicks - an Australorp, Barred Plymouth Rock, Gold Laced Wyandotte and a Sussex Light. They were all meant to be females but after watching my now 9 week old Barred Plymouth Rock become quite aggressive and noticed how much bigger and redder her comb and wattles were than the others, I discovered via this forum she's actually a cockerel. Now I'm a little worried about my Australorp being a cockerel too as the Australorp often stands up to the BPR.
Can you please help identify if she is a pullet or actually a cockerel? And if by any chance you think my BPR is a pullet too let me know, but I'm pretty certain it's a cockerel.

Pullet or cockerel? Makes a lot of noise 6am but not crowing. Could be the beginning ?

I have 4 chicks that are 6 weeks old and I would like to get an opinion on whether or not I have a hen or a roo please

1. Rose - 6 week old Leghorn chick

We are sure Rose is a roo based on how big and red her cone and wattles are

2. Clover - 6 week old Leghorn chick

Initially we thought Clover was a roo because as a chick she/he was much larger than the rest. Now though the size is pretty even across the group and Clover has a small cone

3. Bluebell - 6 week old Leghorn chick

Timid and disinterested in chicken drama

4. Lily - 6 week old Araucana chick

Bossy and often attempting to be the alpha (couldn't get a close shot 'cos Lily wasn't interested in being held)

If I do have a rooster how soon until it starts crowing? Is it better for his socialisation with other flocks to sparate a rooster now, or leave the flock together until the crows begin?

Thank you so much for having a look at my pictures :)

First cockerel (easy to tell because of size of comb), rest are female. You've got the wrong breeds. Age of crowing really varies; some start as soon as 8 weeks old or even a little younger, some wait until eight months old. Why would you want to separate him from the flock?
