Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

How old? An EE?

The feather coloring is showing pullet so far, but that can change. I cannot see the comb well enough. If is lumpy, probably male. Pullets have a single thin ridge down the center. I think your chick is younger, so the comb won't be as developed as this male, but you can still tell.

They are almost 9 weeks.

Can make a small fenced off area for any extra rooster and create a tiny rooster home by himself . I have 31 chickens and I am praying I got at least 1 rooster. I don't understand why people dont want rooster meanwhile im praying and hoping for one lol
Yes, you could https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/rooster-flocks.72998/. However, if you have two roos with 31 hens, they’ll likely not cause much of a problem.
I thought this was a roo because of the first black feathers, but everyday more brown comes through. Could it be a dark hen? He/she is 5 weeks old from McMurray hatchery.

Most likely pullets
Ok, when I purchased this was supposed to be a chocolate Orpington pullet. Is she a he (approx 8 weeks old)
Cockerel

Hello. I hope someone can help on gender with this one?
31 days old and caught on camera when just getting sleepy! Been much slower developing than its hatch mate.

Thanks
Most likely a pullet
Hello! Looking for input on which of these are pullets and which are cockerels. Thanks in advance!
Pic #1 9 week old RIR
Pic #2 8 week Starlight Green Egger
Pic #3 and #5 our second RIR 9 weeks
Pic #4 8 week Starlight
Pic #6 and #7 another RIR
Pic #8 and #9 our 3rd Starlight
RIRs are cockerels, others are looking like pullets
Both Dark Brahma, bought from the farm store on May 09. Indistinguishable as chicks, I was convinced both were SHE, but their coloration is now so divergent from one another (as well as the distinctiveness of the penciling) that my inexperience is showing, and I'm beginning to second/third/fourth guess myself. All the pictures I find of cockerels online (older birds, obviously) tell me there will be no question later, the boys are so distinct, but that doesn't help in the here and now. I have four birds largely matching the coloration of the first (albeit *slightly* darker and more distinct) on the left, and the one much darker bird pictured at right.

Thanks in advance!

I see no obvious signs that they’re cockerels so far
This is Smoosh, she/he is a cross between a Barred Holland roo and a Silver Laced Wyandotte hen. She/he is right at 9 weeks old. I had a little boy from the same hatch that developed much faster and was easily determined to be a boy but unfortunately his life was cut short by the neighbors dog. This one has had me stumped for a number of weeks.View attachment 2184124View attachment 2184125

These chicks are between 7-8 weeks of age, and they are supposed to be female. I bought them from a small, local hatchery and found out that they have some bad reviews about the accuracy of their chick sexing. Now I'm worried I may have a bunch of roosters! There are a variety of breeds, so I don't know how they should compare.

They all look like pullets so far. Vent sexing has an accuracy of 80-90%. So out of ten chicks you’re basically guaranteed a cockerel. Sometimes someone who gets three or five chicks will get a cockerel. Then someone else who gets twenty chicks will get all pullets. If you really, really, do not want a cockerel, get older pullets, adult hens, or sex linked chicks.

We're two weeks in with these babies! Dark Brahmas and a Barred Plymouth Rock ordered as pullets from a hatchery in Ohio. *Dottie almost didn't make it. She/he pulled through though! She/he is MUCH smaller than the others of the same age. Any ideas at such a young age on these?
Too young
Please help me out with these three 5 week olds. The lighter brown one and yellow one are harassing/pecking/ pulling tails on my other chicks so badly I'm just about done with them. My guess is lighter brown one is a Roo and the other two are Pullets.
Any guesses?? Thank you

I don’t see any obvious cockerels, yet
These chicks are about 11 weeks old. I'm thinking the last two pictures might be a rooster? His comb is a little bit darker than the other SLW (unless he is something else) The Brahmas of the same age seen to be much more easy to tell what we have. Pullets
Bantam from mixed flock hatching eggs bought on eBay they said they had Polish, Frizzle, Pekin, Sablepoot and Dutch bantams. It is only 4-5” high and very feathered feet. Nervous unless it sees a meal worm 😀 It’s hatch mate from same eggs is over twice the size. I managed to get photos of that one today so any gender thoughts would be appreciated.

Lightly feathered legs with quite curly feathers. Working on it’s teenage hair do currently!

Thanks
Looks like a pullet so far, polish mix

Patience is not one of my virtues. Went out in the rain to try and get a photo of Darkest D's comb. Bird won't hold still _ I'm likely holding it wrong while I tried to photo.

Are these roosters? They are Saphire gems and a bantam. I am for sure that they are roosters but my dad seems to think otherwise!
All cockerels. Your bantam is a black breasted red old English game bantam, and the barred one with more silver leakage is actually a black sex link.

They looks like pullets so far
Your blue laced reds are actually splash laced reds. Splash laced reds come from blue laced red x blue laced red breedings. The only one that looks like a cockerel is the first splash laced red, but I’m not absolutely sure.
