I second this! I open my incubator and pull out each and every chick as it hatches, which causes temp fluctuation and the humidity to lower a bit and then go back up, and that does not cause a yolk to turn green like that. It probably was that some bacteria got in. If the egg is washed before setting, it takes the bloom off and then bacteria can get in. Sometimes bacteria gets in anyway - that's what causes blood rings too.it's not the temp! mama get off their eggs often and some incubation sites even recommend a cooling down during the day...I don't.....but that baby has an infected yolk! bacteria must have gotten into the shell some way.....you never know with shipped eggs what the flocks health is like....if the eggs were washed etc.... I'm so sorry we've all been through these types of heartbreaks!!!like your 1 said up there its a yok sack that needs to be absorbed and this from my experience with incubaters happens when you open the incubater too much and the temperture goes haywire in the incubaterWARNING: Skip this post if you have a queasy stomach. [rule][rule] What causes multiple malpositionings when using an automatic turner? So far 4 silkies that have pipped have all been upside down in their shells and have died. I put the larger end up in the incubator but when I received them, the narrow end was up in the carton used to ship them. The air cells were on the larger end. I'm a little worried that none of the 4 remaining will survive either. Thus far, it hasn't happened to any of the other types of eggs and that is the only difference I can tell between them. One of the little ones did have scissor beak though so maybe that was a blessing. 20 minutes later: This latest one (#5) died in the shell so I thought. I set it aside (still in the incubator) and went about my chores. It started chirping at me. I went to assist since it was really dried out and I couldn't find the beak. Started to peel the shell off to see how it was positioned. All of a sudden it started to bleed (but not where I was working), so I stopped. I held it (still in its' shell) as it died. When I went to take the shell off (which was kind of stinky), I found something rather disturbing. What, pray tell, is this?! Is that the internal organs that developed on the outside? Is it a Siamese twin? A tumor?
