November Hatch-a-long...

Pics
Precisely. (But I candle a LOT) lmao

They are pretty light. They are barred rock bantam eggs. I'm going to give it a go this afternoon, as it's day seven.

I candle twice a day, mark air sacks every fourth day, and keep notes.... for science! Lololol!

On the bright side, my false alarm pipping egg of a few days ago is no longer a false alarm! View attachment 1953712

As soon as this one is dry and in the brooder I have two more going into lockdown, and then 9 days left on my clutch of 11 (plus a dozen more going in this weekend).

I'm a bit fatootsed that I've not been able to get my shiny new lockdown incubator (farm innovator 2150) to barely kiss at 70% humidity, and that's with every single hole plugged, a solid inch of warm water in the bottom, AND the seam taped shut...

Yay! Congrats on the false alarm becoming a real one!

1 out. Now I have to leave to go up to the farm to do chores. I hope more are out when I get back.

You can put a Red Bird over her and make sex links. I found this out doing experimental breeding with them (trying to draw out a columbian pattern)
I only have one other Bantam and she is a mille fleur bootie. We are in love with these lil gals! I would love to get a banty roo. If I do and get a red, what will my SDW and the red produce for color/pattern? Just a RSL?

I was wrong. Thought a twin had pipped. Poor vision through the bator glass. So I popped them out to quick check signs of life.

Appears the small end chick has movement. Air cell end I cannot tell as so dark and full but air cell has increased yet again and many veins still in small end. Still hopeful...

moved incubation #6 eggs to the hatcher 2 night ago . chicken will be every where .
from 278 eggs 230 are good the rest infertile 48 .
I m 3 large brooders short .guess I will keep building . still have a lot room in the purple room and in th big shed ,so it is only mater of few days before I knok them out . 1 brooder box every weekend will be easy to manage .
September and October hatch are big now .I have to look after them too . they outdoor pen and runs are not ready .
ordered 100 wooden pallets 4X4 to build with them large hens houses .

chooks man

My first ever candling on my first hatch. Day seven. Of eight eggs, I think five are developing. The first picture is of the three that I'm sure aren't developing. No vascular system.

The ones that are developing look like they're just building on one side. There's no air sac at the top like I expected. It's like it's the whole horizontal side? They're in an egg turner, but, I'm wondering if maybe because they're bantam eggs, they aren't getting turned enough?

The turner is working, because the arm is at different angles when I check. Should I try turning the eggs every so often myself?
