November Hatch-a-long...

I am setting 10 BBS Ameraucauna eggs tonight (from Gypsy Hen). They were shipped so that may affect my hatching percentages but this is my first hatch and I am super excited! I know what to expect for the most part but who knows. I just wanted to join in on my first Hatch-A-Long!

checked the eggs last nigh day 16 . from 147 eggs 40 bad and 107 good .
CLB shipped eggs .24 in 16 bad 8 good.
Day Walker { first timmer} 34 in 11 bad ,23 good .
Enki 25 in ,3 bad ,22 good
Golden Boy 33 in 7 bad ,26 good
Big Blue 25 in .2 bad ,23 good .
Black Mamba 6 in 1 bad ,5 good .

Big Blue is a champion for sure .
Sunday 3rd/Monday 4th we see some chicks .

it’s been a weird trend this year in hatch a Longs that most mottled orpingtons are boys. Hope you break the mold and get all the pullets!!!!

I hope so to, but a nice cockerel or two wouldn’t bother me any. I’m planning on setting up breeding pens with them.

Well. Just went into lock-down with this batch.

17 FBCM eggs shipped in, they are so dark to be close to high cocoa chocolate in color.

the bad thing, no matter what I used, i could not candle them. None smell off and everything smelled clean and fresh as i went around sniffing the eggs. (What a sight that was)

After a 24 hour setting period, they spent their first ten days in the hoover-bator and the upright egg turner. then when my next shipment of eggs came in they were moved over to the Nurture Right 360 and spent the last of the time rolling as part of the auto turner.

the other eggs are on day 13, 5 days behind this batch and so far I have had to discard 12 of the 18 eggs as they showed zero development. and the remaining 6, well I have my doubts they make it to lock down frankly.

Unless I get free eggs, this is the last hatch of the year for me. But I do have chicks arriving next week

That is one of my twins in the egg. I know both can survive if the egg is large enough, I've seen several people hatch them but they did need assistance coming out. I didn't mean to put a double yolker in, but now I don't want to stop them because they're thriving. They both move and wiggle when I candle the egg.
