November 2023 Hatch-A-Long

So, I didn’t hatch these chicks myself, but I’ve been waiting patiently for a friend-of-a-friend to hatch these. She asked how much I’d sell hatching eggs for, and I said the price was “chick pics” lol 😂 paid in full. The eggs traveled from my house in eastern Poland to her house in western Germany 😱 I’m kinda jealous that she got to hatch from my colored Egger flock before me!

It looks like she got mostly blue and black chicks, and one splash! (The ginger chick is from her own flock’s egg)

My colored flock consists of black copper Marans, Dark Shell (black sex-link Marans), Sapphire Olive Eggers, Barred Olive Eggers, and a Blue Copper Marans roo (as well as a blue Araucana bantam roo, but the girls don’t respect him lol)

They're a lot bigger now, but I figured I should post an update on the quail:

I was incredibly worried that we had messed them up somehow, hence the "we probably won't get any" response earlier in the thread. I'm thinking now that we definitely didn't incubate well, but it also looks like most of the eggs (purchased locally) weren't fertile since we had some of our own eggs, which we marked, and all the chicks that hatched were from our stock.

Here's a baby pic of all of them about a day old, and a more recent pic of a couple of the ones that were running around.

Interestingly, one of them is really rusty? It's active and eats well, but it looks more like a 4 day old chick than a 10 day old one...

My last lot for November has almost finished. A blue and a black olive egger, two splash Marans x Barnevelder, one blue and two splash copper Marans. There is one Marans egg still in there that I didn't realise had pipped so I popped the three back in there to encourage it.

They're sooooo cute!

So, they hatched Friday Dec 1... lol

We got eggs from a friend, I put 12 under her not know if some were fertilized or not. Candled day 10: 4 not, one busted, 7 looked to have embryos.

On Friday went out to feed mash and heard cheerping! 6 out of 7 that were viable hatched, 7th looked to have died about a week early-ish.

So cute! (Have more pics on another thread)

Friends roos: 1 black Australorp, 1 silver laced Wyandotte. Hens: buff Orpington, Black Australorp, Silver Laced Wayndott
